Vale Andrew Sloan
Last night the Norwood Secondary College community was informed that their principal of 10 years, Andrew Sloan passed away after a brief illness. Andrew was a great partner and friend of our school community. His loss will be felt deeply.
I have passed on our school's condolences and offered support to the Norwood Secondary College Community.
Celebrating Our People
Today we've celebrated our Education Support staff on ES Day with a group morning tea and lunch!
To our ES, thank you to all you do for our students, their families and our staff. Be it school administration, service delivery, or student support, as I shared with you all at our celebrations, you take on tasks and challenges with a nothing-is-too-hard attitude!
Thank you!
Celebrating Positive Enhancements
This week I have engaged in several conversations celebrating the theme of 'Homework'.
Firstly, at our parents' association meeting, I received feedback that the school's enhanced focus on homework has been well received.
Yesterday, at our weekly Out of School Care meeting, the team celebrated Homework Club and the successful relationship and communication between OSHC staff, families and teachers. This partnership has ensured students, who may not have the time at home to do their nightly reading or practice of mathematics number facts, are identified and supported.
Last night, these sentiments were echoed by School Council with the group acknowledging there has been a clear increase in attention to homework. We celebrated the school's deliberate approach to homework is evident. That being it is:
- purposeful;
- differentiated and delivered at an achievable level to each child;
- the practice of skills and concepts taught at school;
- achievable with limited assistance required, making it largely independent; and
- is varied to ensure it remains engaging.
Thank you for prioritising this important component of consolidating learning.
