Last Wednesday, the Year 9 Extended PE elective began their three-week coaching program and coached Grade Prep D, A and Grade 2A to assist them in developing their ball handling, throwing and catching skills. These Year 9’s, nicknamed the “Super Coaches” planned out fantastic activities for the students to engage in and were impressively motivating and welcoming to their little students. Some of the activities included bowling to a stack of cones, partner kicking, hoop throwing and catching off a rebound net and launch board.
In week one, the Super Coaches, already made modifications to improve their stations like changing the layout or adding more equipment to engage, motivate and challenge the students. One year 9, Sasha, also reflected that the experience was “challenging, tiring but also fun and different.” She also reflected that herself and her group had to “make the games more exciting and challenging” to keep the students engaged. This level of reflection is paramount to being an awesome coach so we cannot wait to see what they achieve next week. Mrs Berthet highlighted “the energy of the coaches was very impressive and the station ideas were well thought out and targeted the learning needs of the students”.
Two prep students were also excited to share their experiences. Araz from Prep D announced that his favourite station was the one where “the beanbag went flying into the air” and Tavita from Prep D “loved the bouncing one.”
Mr Kanzamar is, “very impressed with the organisation, leadership skills and their positive attitude towards working with the youngest students in the college and setting a good example for them. We cannot wait to see you next week for our sessions.”
