PREP

In the Prep space, we have been having so much fun!. Part of our writing this term has been to write about our experiences based on the letter focus for the week.

The preps have made fairy floss, had a disco, made paper snails, flower bouquets for Mother’s Day and poppies for Anzac Day.

We also had so a great time when the parents came to visit for Education Week. We had to make a boat out of aluminium foil and see how many blocks it could hold before it sunk. Thank you to all the families that could attend.

Year 1

During this Term, as part of their Mathematics learning, the Year 1 students have been experimenting with estimating and measuring different objects using informal units, this has allowed them to get very creative. Some students measured their whole tables while other students ended up getting measured!

Our Year 1’s also showed their support for anti-bullying by wearing a splash of blue for the

Do it for Dolly’ day.

In Science, the Year 1 students were extremely excited to share their learning space with their parents and carers as part of Education week.

Their task was to build the strongest and longest bridge to support various supplies around the classroom using only paper.

It was an awesome task, students got very creative and parents loved being involved too.

Year 2

The year 2 students have continued to learn and enjoy different activities during term 2 and we are excited to share some of these activities with you.

Over the past few weeks, we have been continued to work with informal and formal methods of measurement.  We have been learning to measure and compare various objects. We have been actively engaged in hands-on activities that not only reinforce the concept but also make learning fun and memorable.

We have furthered our exploration of patterns in numbers and have continued to practise our skip counting using the 100s chart, counter and fingers to assist us in identifying and predicting patterns.  Your children have enjoyed challenging themselves by trying to skip count, not only by 2s, 5s, and 10s, but also by 3s, 6s, and 9s.

In reading the focus has been on text features of non-fiction information texts.  The students have enjoyed reading and learning new information about a range of topics.  They have been learning to use prior knowledge to support newly learned information, allowing them to see how their thinking has changed over time.

During writing your children have been exploring writing information reports, choosing a focus topic researching, paraphrasing under appropriate sub-headings, and drafting their reports.  They have also been practising their editing skills and looking at their own use of punctuation.  They have needed to look at their writing and add appropriate text features into their work. They have learnt to present their information report in a clear and organised manner.

In science we have we have been exploring different materials wood, fabric, plastic, metal, glass etc and the properties of these materials.  We have looked at objects and what they are made from and the reason why the material was used to make a particular object.

We have been exploring sustainability in humanities.  We have been focussing on ideas of ways to reduce, recycle and reuse our waste.  The year twos are very excited about their upcoming excursion to CERES.

Do It For Dolly Day was celebrated in the year two classrooms where the students spoke about the importance of kindness and wore blue to bring awareness to the dangers of bullying.

We were also extremely happy to welcome many of you into our classrooms last week for Education Week.  Your children were so excited to have you come and assist them to make harmonicas.

As always, the year 2 teachers are all so proud to see your children’s progress and are excited to see the continuation of their learning.

Digital Technology

Students in Grade 2 were recently introduced to 6 characters from the website - Common Sense Media. These characters encourage students to be good digital citizens when using the internet and devices. Students watched videos to learn about the characters, then thought about how they spend their own time using technology. We used our heads to decide which websites are safe for kids and used our hearts to build positive relationships online.

Their names are:

Arms – Use your arms when you're online to balance your time!

Guts – Listen to your gut to stay safe online!

Feet – Use your feet carefully when leaving tracks online!

Heart – Use your heart to be kind and respectful online!

Legs – Use your legs to stand up to bullies online!

Head – Use your head to ask questions about what you see online!
