Week 9, Term 2

Physical Education

 

Prep PE

This week, students will focus on mastering the fundamental movement skill of bouncing a ball by learning to use their fingertips for better control. They will practice gently pushing the ball towards the ground to maintain a consistent bounce.

 

Prep Sensory

Students will participate in rotational activities with the focus of improving their core strength, balance and ability to work in a small group.

 

Grade 1 and 2

This week, students will engage in small group activities to practice bouncing a ball and leaping. For bouncing, they will learn to use their fingertips to push the ball down and control its bounce at waist height.

 

Grade 3 and 4

This week, students will enhance their AFL skills by participating in a modified game, emphasizing kicking, marking, and handballing. They will also begin training for the Athletics Carnival with a focus on mastering the shotput technique.

 

Grade 5 and 6

This week, students will enhance their AFL skills by participating in a modified game, emphasizing kicking, marking, handballing and field position. They will also begin training for the Athletics Carnival with a focus on mastering the shotput technique.

 

Visual Arts

Prep

There is no Prep Art this week due to the King’s Birthday holiday.

 

Grade 1

Students will complete a guided drawing of a wombat to link in with the current Aboriginal season we are in: Waring Wombat Season.

 

Grade 2

Students will be creating a ‘Birrarung’ Yarra River art work. They will design a birds eye view of the river and surrounding landscape before embossing their markings onto tin.

 

Grade 3 and 4

This week student’s will paint the top coat on their Box Monster, and draw a portrait of their 3D construction with pastels.

 

Grade 5 and 6

Students will finalise the etching of their chosen Australian animal, and draw their symbol story around their work, before mounting it for display.

 

Performing Arts

🎵 Prep

Students will be introduced to new percussion instruments. They will explore the difference between rhythm and beat by practising keeping a steady beat and copying rhythms with these instruments. Students are continuing to create their class song based on one of the Wurundjeri 7 seasons. 

 

🎤 Grade 1 and 2

Students are exploring the musical concept of 'melody'. They will identify the melody in music pieces and have the opportunity to sing and play short melodic phrases with tuned instruments. Students will also compose their own short melody in a group.

 

🎶 Grade 3 and 4

Students are continuing to explore how their own ideas can be developed into dramatic action. They will use their understanding of the elements of drama from the term to begin planning their own performance.  

 

🎭 Grade 5 and 6

Students are experimenting with sharing stories in augmented reality. They will be using one of their 'Country' visual art pieces to inspire a 'sound story'. Students will begin planning their story, editing their artwork and collecting the required sounds to accompany their artwork.
