Level 3 & 4 Wonga Weekly

Week 9, Term 2

WEEK 9 LEARNING

We hope you all had a relaxing long weekend connecting with your families! As we continue assessments this week, please ensure your child brings a fully charged iPad and headphones to school every day.

Literacy

This week in Phonics we are exploring the oi sound (oi as in coin and oy as in toy).

Students will be reading about rabbits this week and revisiting the comprehension strategies they have explored this term. They will then be summarising (retelling) the main ideas within the story.

What you can do at home

Help your child to set aside time to read - preferably every night. This will help them build important learning habits. Your child now has access to Reading Eggspress, to help with adding variety to their range of text choices. Ask your child to retell or summarise what is happening in the books they are reading.

Maths

Students will be using their understanding of 2D and 3D shapes to learn about perimeter. They will be using formal and informal measurements to calculate the perimeter of a variety of shapes.

What you can do at home

Talk about and count vertices (corners) edges, and faces of 2D and 3D shapes. Notice and name 2D and 3D shapes in your environment, especially more challenging shapes such as rhombus, trapezium, prisms and pyramids. Discuss the measurement tools used around the house and real-life situations where perimeter is calculated.

Social

Respectful Relationships

Students are completing age-appropriate learning tasks to build their awareness around demonstrating kindness and respect for difference.

Friendology

Students will be revisiting the concept of ‘Tricky Situations’, focusing on responses they can use when they feel uncomfortable in social situations, both online and offline.

CONCERNS

It is important to let your child’s classroom teacher know of any problems/concerns that your child may share with you about their time at school. Please alert the school (classroom teacher) about the problem as soon as possible, allowing school staff to work through it, rather than trying to solve it yourself or with other parents.

PREMIERS’ READING CHALLENGE

Your child should have now received an information page and login details which will set them up to participate in the Victorian Premiers' Reading Challenge.  Every child in the school has been registered but participation is optional. If you would like to participate, follow the steps outlined to enter the books read.
