🏀🎵🎨 Term 3 Planning Day:

Teachers will be planning on Monday 17th June for Term 3. This is the day when students have all their Specialist classes on one day (which means Specialists will only be on Monday for this week).  We will greet the students in the morning to make sure they are settled before their fun day.

CURRICULUM

📚 Phonemic awareness: reading and phonics

Students will read decodable texts (words and phrases), using their knowledge of sounds to segment and blend words. We will look at some 'irregular' words, and discuss the parts of the word that need to be learnt 'by heart'.

We are focussing on 'o' as a medial sound and explore 'og' as a rhyming base (related to our mentor text, Tiddalik the Frog).

What can you do at home?

-Help your child to read their decodable 'take home' book each night

-Explore the Reading Eggs library and Fast Phonics to read decodable texts

-Continue to revise sounds on the sound/letter rings

-Talk about words that rhyme. Provide a word for your child to rhyme with eg. 'cat' and say / write as many rhyming words as you can

📝 Literature: reading responses and writing

The mentor text this week is the Dreaming story, Tiddalik the Frog. Students will use this text to form the basis of their writing experiences, like responding to story elements and writing to a visual prompt from the book.

Students will revise the exit and entry points for lower case letters. They will look at 'the boss' - r and the related 'cousins' - n and m.

What can you do at home?

-Engage in fine motor tasks such as sorting, threading, writing, colouring, making, building, play dough and painting

-Reinforce lower case letters, and correct entry and exit points for letters if your child writes at home. We have attached the Boss C and Boss R posters below, should you need a refreshers on entry and exit points!

-Practise lower case letter formations on the app 'Red Writing'

🔢  Maths

This week, we will explore pictographs. Students will think about the purpose of graphs and explore the vocabulary used in relation to graphing / data. Students will gather information as a class from peer interests eg. 'what is our favourite ice cream?' and use this information to answer questions about the graph. Students will create their own pictographs and use their data to answer simple questions.

What can you do at home?

-Use Mathseeds on the iPad to explore graphing concepts

-Visit this website for a fun graphing game! https://www.abcya.com/games/fuzz_bugs_graphing

🌏 CBL - Country

Preparations are underway to 'reimagine' the Imagination Garden. Whilst this is happening in the background, students will plan and design a rock to add to the garden with Aboriginal inspired artwork.

Students will watch a Play School short video called Hand in Hand, which discusses racism, what it is, how it makes people feel and how we can all play a part in stopping it. Please find the link below if you would like to watch the clip. You may also like to have a discussion with your child about the part they can play in treating people fairly and equally. We have also attached a notes page (below) that you might like to refer to, with ideas for further reading and resources.
