Teaching & Learning

Year 10 English
In Year 10 English, students study the graphic novel 'Maus' and are asked to create their own short graphic novel drawing upon the experiences, characters, and themes of 'Maus' and to adapt them in some way. The tasks requires a reflective piece which explains their artistic choices, and includes an analysis of their work in the same way they had analysed those of 'Maus' by author Art Spiegelman.

Year 10 Sport Coaching and Athlete Development Elective
On Tuesday the 18th and Thursday the 27th of March, the Coburg High School Year 10 Sport Coaching and Athlete Development classes attended Coburg Primary School Junior Campus to apply the knowledge and the skills that they had learnt throughout the first term, whilst working with primary aged students.
Our Year 10 students successfully coached the
Coburg Primary Grade 1 students in a variety of
sports including Netball, Basketball, Tennis,
Soccer and Football, developing each of the
students competency levels across the array of
sports.
It was truly remarkable to see the enthusiastic interactions, care and guidance being positively role modelled by each of the members of the Sport Coaching classes.
The Coburg Primary School Grade 1 Teachers were absolutely blown away by the performance of our Year 10 Sport Coaching Classes and remarked that ‘they should be so proud of themselves.’
On behalf of the Year 10 Sport Coaching and Athlete Development classes we would like to thank Jacob Bryant (Coburg Primary Physical Education Teacher) and the Grade 1 Teachers at Coburg Primary for allowing our two Sport Coaching Classes to have such a valuable and memorable experience.

Modern History
This term, our Year 11 Modern History students tackled Ideology and Conflict, diving into the Weimar Republic and the rise of Nazi Germany. A major focus was source analysis, honing their skills to assess and critique sources – including propaganda.
A highlight for Line 2 was History in Focus: Reconstruct & Reveal, a fast-paced team challenge. Each group chose a leader to step outside while the rest studied a visual source. On their return, the leader recreated the image solely from their teammates' descriptions. This sparked debate, impressively accurate interpretations and frantic gesturing. Beyond the fun, it strengthened skills in interpreting visuals, communicating clearly and evaluating bias – vital preparation for their SACs. Students reflected on the experience:
In Modern History, it's been an honour to study the Weimar Republic and the complex factors that led to the rise of Nazi Germany. A highlight of this unit was the team activity, Reconstruct & Reveal. This activity gave us key source analysis skills crucial for our upcoming SACs.

The team challenge Reconstruct & Reveal was not only an exciting opportunity to collaborate with my peers but also an experience that pushed me to quickly assess the significance of source features and describe them under pressure. These skills will prove beneficial in my SAC preparation and future assessments. April
As seen in the image below, students threw themselves into the challenge with enthusiasm.
Chloe and I are incredibly proud and can’t wait for Term 2, when we tackle the rise of Stalin!

Biology
Year 11 Biology class have been modelling the human digestive system following on from their investigation into its function. The models were then put to the test simulating the digestion process on actual food!
