From the Rector

Dear Fellow Mazenodians,

Grace has been felt in so many areas of College life and in this short article I hope to share just a few. I feel very blessed to have been a part of this community.

Our Year 7 camp saw an introduction to Mass alongside many other meaningful experiences. Our newest Mazenodians fully embraced the invitation to respectfully be involved in the Mass. This behavior extended throughout the Camp which pleased everyone.

Our Year 13 (Class of 2024) Experience genuinely provided assistance to Year 7 students, staff and families. Eight graduates from 2024 generously gave of their time and selves to help in the transition to College life. There were Moments of Grace everywhere.

I was pleased to be able to join with Fr McMahon OMI and celebrate the Opening Mass and Blessing at St Brigid’s College last week. Mr Simon Harvey, Mrs Mary Retel, Mr Damian Wallis and I passed on our College’s best wishes for the year ahead. This further demonstrates our willingness to work closely together for the benefit of our students, staff and families.

I felt incredibly blessed to teach in Year 10 and 11 on our search for meaning where the promises of Jesus give us hope. I shared with the boys that H.O.P.E is a acronym of Hold On, Pain Ends. We all have pain to navigate in our lives and some of it can seem unbearable but we are assured we are not alone and that it will eventually end, even if that is in eternal life. We also assured the boys to Never Worry Alone and that help was always by their side and within them.

Our Boarding Mass at 6:30pm on a Sunday night offers a really good opportunity to gather in God’s name, re-set the week and look forward to fresh starts. Every boarder makes significant effort to be reverent and respectful in Mass and I just wanted to let their families know that they do this so well. The Boarding Staff, led by Mrs Annamaria Cream really have worked so hard to assist our boys.

I have been very blessed to join the beginning of the Rite Journey and have been inspired by the boys, their families and the staff.

Over the past two weeks, I enjoyed visiting the following towns in WA as I get to know my new state; Collie, Allanson, Guilderton, Bolgart and Bridgetown.  have now visited 75 towns and look forward to visiting many more. Mazenod has a strong name in each of the towns I have visited.

I wish everyone well in our State elections within the next couple of weeks. I encourage you to have a look at policies and commitments in order to better inform your vote and I keep all candidates in my prayers as they attempt to serve and lead our community.

Take Care and God Bless

Fr Michael Twigg OMI
