Wellbeing - Canine Comprehension Dogs in Schools Program Term 1

A small group of year 7 students have begun their first year of high school with some weekly  support from our favourite Canine Comprehension Therapy Dog, Ollie and his wonderful mentor Maddie. In these hour-long sessions, students explore a range of topics with Maddie from friendship and communication skills to practicing mindfulness, self care and personal wellbeing. This term our group has taught Ollie some amazing new skills that have aided in the development of  Ollie’s self regulation and confidence, while building our student’s own skills in teamwork, patience and confidence. Here are some action shots of Ollie learning to jump over a rope. He was unsure of how to do so at first, however with the aid of his wonderful trainers providing lots of encouragement and praise, he was able to overcome a difficult hurdle. This was a great lesson for our students to see the benefits of perseverance in action!
