Celebrating International Women’s Day – March 8

Every year on March 8, we celebrate International Women’s Day (IWD)—a global day recognising the achievements of women and raising awareness of the ongoing fight for gender equality. Since the early 1900s, women have used this day to advocate for equal rights and highlight the incredible contributions of women worldwide.

At Park Orchards Primary School, we take this opportunity to acknowledge the outstanding women in our school, our community, and beyond. Whether in education, the workplace, or at home, your leadership, dedication, and contributions are deeply valued. We also recognise the men who support and uplift gender equality—because together, we are stronger.

Fun Ways to Celebrate International Women’s Day as a Family

Looking for meaningful and fun ways to celebrate International Women’s Day with your family? Here are some great ideas:

💜 Do something special for a woman you love- Encourage your child to pick a special woman in their life to honour—whether it’s mum, grandma, an aunt, or a family friend. They could:

• Make Grandma her favourite dinner
• Plan a fun outing with an aunt, like dinner and a movie
• Write a heartfelt note or create a handmade gift

🍪 Get baking with a fun twist- Bake and decorate Gingerbread Girls or cupcakes inspired by strong women. The cleanup will be worth it when you see their happy, decorated faces looking back at you!

🎬 Watch a movie with an inspiring female lead- Films with strong, empowering heroines can be a great way to start conversations about leadership and perseverance. Some family-friendly picks include:
