Hands On Learning

Just an update on our ‘Hands- On-Learning’ program, what we have been doing and what we are planning to do next term. Over this term we have began working with a few small groups, from Grade Two to Grade Six, with a focus on developing social skills, such as getting along, working collaboratively, turn taking and problem solving. Activities have included Cooking and ‘STEM’ (a cross-disciplinary approach to education that promotes problem-solving and critical thinking skills). On Wednesday afternoons we have had a small group attending the Kyabram Zoo, working in a program called ‘Little Rangers’. Students will be involved in activities from cleaning cages, developing a toy for an animal (such as the dingos) and completing a project based on a animal that they will be able to present to an audience.

Next term we will be adding another program ‘Hands-On-Learning’ Café.  Students in Grades three to six will be provided with information on this program today at school, although to begin with we will be offering this program to the grades five and six students. Attached to this ‘Newsletter’ is some more information about the ‘Hands-On-Learning program’.
