2026 International Day of Women and Girls in Science
Rob Mitchell MP visited our College to acknowledge the International Day of Women and Girls in Science (IDWGIS) on the 11th February. The theme of IDWGIS 2026 is “Synergizing AI, Social Science, STEM and Finance: Building Inclusive Futures for Women and Girls.” This is a relevant theme as the world navigates the risks and benefits associated with the increase of artificial intelligence (AI) while using STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) to promote sustainable and inclusive development. Rob enjoyed talking to students from our year 11 VCE Biology class and hearing what they are learning about. He embraced the opportunity to learn from our staff and students- our very own Women and Girls in Science at Hazel Glen College.
Meet Our Year 7 Leaders
We are proud to introduce our dedicated Year 7 Year Level Leaders, Head of School and Assistant Principal, who are here to support, guide and inspire our newest students as they begin their secondary school journey. Friendly, approachable and always ready to listen, our Year 7 leaders work hard to ensure every student feels welcomed, valued and confident from day one.
With a strong focus on wellbeing, academic progress and positive relationships, they create a nurturing environment where students can thrive. Whether it’s helping with the transition from primary school, offering encouragement, or celebrating achievements, our Year 7 leaders are committed to making the first year both successful and enjoyable.
Students and families can feel reassured knowing that our Year 7 leaders are always available with a warm smile, helpful advice and unwavering support.
Minister for Consumer Affairs Visit
It was a great experience having Nick Staikos and Lauren Kathage visit our school to speak to us about consumer affairs. It was really interesting to hear directly from Members of Parliament about real-life issues that will most likely affect us in the near future, such as buying and owning a car, understanding our rights as consumers, and renting a home. These are things many of us haven’t had to think about yet, so it was helpful to learn about them now and understand how the law protects us.
The presentation was engaging and relevant to our age group, and it made the topic feel much more connected to our everyday lives. It was also enjoyable hearing firsthand how laws are created and how decisions made in Parliament can impact young people. We are very grateful that our College provides us with opportunities like this to learn beyond the classroom and continue growing as informed and responsible young adults.

Year 9 City Experience
Over the past two weeks the Year 9 cohort has attended their first City Experience of the year. All staff and students had a great experience in the city, exploring significant landmarks and building confidence, navigating the city on public transport. In the coming weeks all classes will once again venture into the city, completing a variety of excursions with the aim of building resilience and class connection. Thanks to all the staff for their organisation and supervision.
