Heads of Secondary Years' Report

To our wonderful Hazel Glen community,
On Monday 16th of February we had our first Secondary Years Assembly. The focus of this assembly was to acknowledge and honour our highest achieving VCE, VCE VM and VET students from the graduating class of 2025. Aligned closely to our theme this year of Connect First, we invited back our past students and honoured them, as members of our College community. We also enjoyed an amazing musical performance from current year 12 student, Will and had the presentation of VCE jumpers to our new College Captains and Vice Captains from the 2025 Vice Captains.
We were fortunate to have Lauren Kathage, Member for Yan Yean and Rob Mitchell, Member for McEwen, attend our assembly to present the Yan Yean and McEwen awards. The College Dux for 2025, Samuel, who achieved an outstanding ATAR addressed the Secondary students and shared his reflection of his VCE journey, including the weight of expectations and the need to practice self care and keep things in perspective. Congratulations to Samuel on not only a wonderful speech and fantastic ATAR, but also for all of his hard work and efforts over his VCE journey.
There was much to celebrate from the class of 2025, they achieved some very good results and our median study score for the College has increased by two from previous years to 28. We had 99% of VCE students successfully complete their program and 38 students successfully completed their VCE VM program. We have seen a large number of students already transition to work or further study and we are so proud of them.
We hope that many of our younger students were inspired by these achievements, as we certainly felt a sense of pride and tradition from inviting the students back and celebrating with them and their families.
This year is a significant one in the College's history as we will see our first ever Prep students from 2014 graduate at the end of this year. There are only a handful of students who will complete their 13 years of Primary and Secondary schooling at Hazel Glen and among them is our current College Captain, Peyton, who was the very first student enrolled at Hazel Glen College.
Our Year 9s have enjoyed their first day in the city for their city experience orientation and will have their extended city day over the coming weeks. We had a beautiful morning yesterday at the Year 12 Welcome Breakfast, where College Principal, Mr Stockwell addressed the class of 2026 and wished them well for their final year at our College. The Year 12s had the opportunity to share the morning with their parents or special guests, received a letter to help motivate and focus their efforts this year and they also received their Year 12 jumpers.
We are all looking forward to the Secondary Swimming Carnival on the 5th March.
Warm regards,
