Aboriginal Education

Welcome
We would like to say a huge welcome back to everyone and welcome to our new year 7 students. We have moved rooms this year and you can find us in the Wellbeing Hub in B block room B202.
Nya Quinlan - Australian First Nations Budgies Netball
At the end of last term, Nya played for the 18s Australian First Nations Budgies netball team in Fiji, where the team proudly secured third place. They competed against strong sides from New Zealand, Samoa, Fiji, as well as Australian teams from Perth and Ballarat.
In mid-January this year, Nya participated in the annual Budgies carnival at Nissan Arena in Brisbane, playing for the NSW Echidnas. Her performance earned her selection once again for the 18s Budgies team.
We are very excited to see her represent the Australian First Nations Budgies in New Zealand this September.
Nahri Slater-Saunders - Buddy Knox Talent Contest
Nahri competed in the Buddy Knox talent contest on 21st January at the Tamworth Country Music Festival and won!!!
A few words from Nahri:
I’m thrilled to share that I won the 16-18 age group in the Buddy Knox Talent Contest! The competition featured live singing with a band or solo performances across different age groups (under 15, 16-18, and open categories). I was so honoured to be named Buddy Knox’s Best Choice, win mentoring sessions with Uncle Buddy, receive a $100 gift card to a music shop in Tamworth, and perform at the fan zone on Peel Street during the country music festival.
On top of that, Buddy will also be personally mentoring me, which is an incredible opportunity to learn and grow as an artist. I also had the amazing experience of a radio interview! I’m truly grateful for the chance to share my voice and connect with so many talented singers and supportive family and friends. Being part of the Buddy Knox Talent Show was unforgettable and a real blessing. Thank you to everyone who supported me along the way!
Lyāmbay Dancers
The Lyāmbay Dance Group kicked off their 2026 season with a vibrant performance at the Armidale City Bowling Club, performing on behalf of the Armidale Local Aboriginal Lands Council. This special event was held as part of a session in partnership with Wildlife Health Australia, aimed at informing mob about the H5N1 Bird Flu.
The gathering provided important information on protecting local wildlife and communities from the impacts of the bird flu, with the dance group’s cultural performance adding a meaningful connection to the event.
Swimming Carnival
On Thursday the 19th February we had our School Swimming Carnival. It was a great day where everyone had lots of fun getting involved either competing in the races or cheering each other on. Thanks to everyone who came along and made it a fantastic day!
Thanks from Aunty Carol, Ms Bradford, Ms Leonie, Aunty Tash, Jaiden and Judy
