Huge congratulations to Pax H (2TS) on earning his Blue Belt (8th kyu) at the end of last year!

All that hard work paid off - fantastic achievement!

If your child achieves something special (grand final win, most valuable player award, best and fairest etc.), please email me (jordan.daley@education.vic.gov.au) through photos and an overview of the achievement to post in Contact. It is important to celebrate and recognise such successes with the school community.

MENTAL HEALTH IN PRIMARY SCHOOLS

The Mental Health in Primary Schools (MHiPS) program adopts a whole-school approach to mental health and wellbeing through the appointment of a dedicated Mental Health and Wellbeing Leader (MHWL), a role I am undertaking this year. The MHWL role is distinct from allied health positions, as it does not involve the provision of one-on-one counselling. Instead, it focuses on implementing a broad, preventative approach to supporting the wellbeing of the entire school community. As such, my work will primarily involve collaborating with staff at a whole-school level rather than working directly with individual students. Any individual student wellbeing concerns should continue to be directed to our Assistant Principals Janine Hough (Prep, Yr. 1 and Yr. 2) and Brad Ryan (Yrs. 3/4 Yr. 5 & Yr. 6)

What does this mean for our school community?

Through the MHiPS program, our school is well resourced and supported, with strong connections both internally and with external community services. The Mental Health and Wellbeing Leader role is multifaceted and plays a key role in strengthening and building upon the school’s existing commitment to wellbeing. Our overarching goal is to refine, embed, and sustain a positive mental health and wellbeing approach across the school; however, this is an ongoing process that will develop over time.

2026 focus: Understanding needs and building capacity

In 2026, our focus will be on gaining a deeper understanding of the specific mental health and wellbeing needs of our school community. We aim to empower both students and staff through the development of a whole-school Wellbeing Scope and Sequence, building staff capacity to understand mental health, develop effective strategies, and know where and how to access support when required. By working collaboratively with students, parents, and staff, we will identify and strengthen the support structures needed to help students at Greenhills Primary School thrive.

The accompanying jigsaw image provides a helpful visual overview of the MHWL role and its key areas of focus.

Keep an eye out in future newsletters for an overview of our 2026 whole school book ‘Some Days You’ll Have Days Like These’ and how it has been used in our ‘Get, Set, Connect’ program and how it is linked to our wellbeing program.

OFFICE NEWS

CAMPS, SPORTS and EXCURSIONS FUND (CSEF)

School camps provide children with inspiring experiences in the great outdoors. Excursions encourage a deeper understanding of how the world works while sports teach teamwork, discipline and leadership. All are a part of a healthy curriculum.

CSEF is provided by the Victorian Government to assist eligible families to cover the costs of school excursions, camps and sporting activities.

If you hold a valid means-tested concession card or support an out of home care student, you may be eligible for CSEF. A special consideration category also exists for asylum seeker and refugee families.

The allowance is paid directly to the school to use towards expenses relating to camps, excursions or sporting activities for the benefit of your child.

The annual CSEF amount per student is $400 for eligible school students.

If you applied for CSEF last year, you do not need to complete an application form this year unless there has been a change in your family circumstance, eg; new Prep enrolled.

New applicants should

Contact the school office to obtain a CSEF application form or print the attached, these are due by 26th June 2026.  Click here for application form
