A Capital Experience: Year 6 Camp 2026

Our Year 6 Canberra Camp was a truly memorable experience for our students, and I was fortunate to visit the students and stay for an evening during the camp. It was a pleasure to witness firsthand the independence, camaraderie and joy that develops when boys step outside their usual routines and share new experiences together. There was a real sense of excitement in the air, particularly around discovering new places, navigating new responsibilities, and making memories with their peers.

Throughout the week, students had the opportunity to engage deeply with Australia’s history, democracy and national identity. Visits to the Royal Australian Mint, the Australian War Memorial and Parliament House allowed students to move beyond classroom learning and experience these important institutions in meaningful ways.

In speaking with some of the students, at the Mint they saw how Australian coins are designed and produced, sparking curiosity about national symbols. At the War Memorial, they were encouraged to reflect respectfully on service, sacrifice and the stories of those who have shaped our nation. At Parliament House, students explored how laws are made and how citizens are represented, bringing their classroom topic of civics and citizenship to life in a powerful and engaging way.

Equally valuable were the moments outside the very busy itinerary that they had — shared meals, navigating unfamiliar environments, supporting one another, and learning the small but important skills of independence that come with being away from home.  I know, equally important for you as families to be able to see that independence grow in your sons.

This type of camp is a significant milestone in the Year 6 journey and an important step in preparing students for the transition to high school. We are proud of the way they represented our College and grateful to all the staff, led by Mr Antonio Morris who gave their time and care to make this experience both enriching and safe for all involved.
