The Foundation students have had a fantastic start to the year.

Over the past couple of weeks, they’ve been building new friendships, settling into the school routine and growing in confidence both inside and outside the classroom.

We’re excited to see what the rest of the year brings!

The Level 1 students have had a great fortnight getting back into the swing of school and learning.

Our SEL sessions have continued to look at the Zones of Regulation and how we can identify and name how we are feeling.

In Literacy we have jumped back into our Little Learners Love Literacy program, and have enjoyed learning our new sounds. Our writing has used a mentor text of ‘The Paper Bag Princess’, students loved using toys from the room to retell the story and then wrote a more formal summary of the story. We made some interesting princesses from a paper bag and enjoyed reading the non-traditional fairy tale.

In Maths we have been completing some assessments on the laptops- a skill on its own! We have also been working on sorting, classifying and creating patterns. We have been looking at all the different ways we can make patterns such as with unfix cubes, natural materials and using our bodies (clapping, jumping etc.).

Inquiry has been a lot of fun as we looked at how houses and household items have changed.

Some of our favourite ‘olden days’ items have been phones with cords and something called a CD player?

Level 2 students have been working hard to strengthen their place value knowledge, exploring how numbers are made and what each digit represents.

To celebrate their learning, they created colourful donuts for our “Donut You Love Place Value” display, which looks fantastic and shows their growing confidence with numbers. We have also begun our learning about space, where students have learnt about day and night and explored the phases of the Moon, developing an understanding of how the Earth and Moon move and change over time.

Level 3

Last week, our Level 3 students enjoyed celebrating Valentine’s Day with some special craft activities.

They had lots of fun writing heartfelt letters to their loved ones and creating “paper hugs” to share. It was a lovely way to celebrate the day and spread a little kindness.

We have also been continuing our Mindful Monsters recap with Laura.

She has been reminding us of all the wonderful monsters who help us regulate our big feelings and use strategies to support us in our day-to-day lives.

Level 4

Level 4 students have been diving into our Inquiry topic Rock On, beginning with a hands‑on experiment exploring how water runoff works.

In teams, students designed their own landscapes and tested how much water they could guide to the bottom. There was plenty of enthusiasm, and one clear discovery stood out — sand absorbs water very quickly!

Our next focus has been on rocks and landforms. This has sparked wonderful curiosity across the cohort, with many students bringing in books and interesting rock samples to share with the class. It’s been fantastic to see their excitement and growing knowledge.

With the Winter Olympics underway, we’ve also taken the opportunity to blend maths with sport. Level 4 students created their own Olympic‑style events, ran competitions, and recorded times and distances.

They then analysed their data and presented their findings, turning maths into an active and engaging experience.

There has been a lot happening in Level 5 since returning to school!

Not only has there been a lot of excitement about our Portsea Camp but we have been very busy with assessments and preparing for NAPLAN.

During Maths, we have been learning about place value working with numbers into the millions.

One of our activities involved creating a poster titled ‘All About Me in Numbers’ where the students added interesting facts about themselves that required an answer that was a number. The objective was to think of different mathematical ways to represent the answer rather than writing it in numbers. There were a variety of different responses including tally tables, number lines, roman numerals, MAB blocks, number equations and fractions to name a few.

It was a fun way to get to know more about each other too!

Level 6 Egg Drop Biographies

Level 6 students have officially launched their Term 1 Egg Drop Projects!

This exciting unit brings together learning from Design and Technology, Numeracy, and Literacy, giving students the opportunity to apply a wide range of skills in creative and practical ways.

This week, students submitted their ‘Character Profiles,’ where they designed an egg-inspired character based on a famous person.

We were thrilled to receive a variety of imaginative and informative creations including posters, magazines, wanted posters, Canva presentations and many other inventive profiles. Each project showcased the students’ creativity and thoughtful character development.

Later in the term, students will take their ideas even further by designing and constructing a 3D setting for their egg character.

This is always a highlight of the term and the entire school eagerly anticipates viewing the finished displays.
