Performing Arts and Community Update - Feb 5
Welcome to another exciting year in Performing Arts. With production planning already underway, it’s shaping up to be a busy and creative year ahead.
Throughout the production process, students will continue to develop their skills in Music, Drama and Movement. In Term 1, students in Years 5-6 will dive into the world of Musical Theatre, exploring a range of dramatic techniques including improvisation, character development and ensemble work.
Alongside preparing their production items for Alice the Musical, Year 3 students will be introduced to the descant recorder. They will practice reading treble clef notation, build their musical understanding and develop a clear, confident tone. Year 4 students will continue to strengthen their recorder skills through the Black Belt Recorder Program, progressing through levels at their own pace. Recorders will be stored at school so they are easily accessible for lessons.
Prep to Year 2 students will explore musical storytelling through singing and movement while preparing their items for the production, as well as developing their instrumental skills using ukuleles, xylophones, glockenspiels and a range of percussion instruments.
In addition to Performing Arts, I’m pleased to continue in my role as Community Leader. I’m looking forward to working closely with our Year 6 Community Leaders and supporting the Parents & Friends Association throughout the year. I’m also excited to have a dedicated team of Year 6 leaders who will be actively involved in production preparation and a range of community initiatives.
Congratulations to our 2026 Year 6 leaders:
Performing Arts Leaders: Caitlin C, Mila L, Amelia O, Emma E, Zahara V and Sana V
Community Leaders: Isaac A, Ava Br, Dominic H, Dante M, Evie T, Maxi Z and Rhys L
I’m looking forward to a creative and rewarding year ahead.
