From The Team

Hello to all our Year 5/6 Families!

It’s hard to believe we’ve already reached the end of Week 8 – time flies when so much exciting learning is happening! The past two weeks have been a whirlwind of creativity, collaboration and achievement.

Our students have been hard at work writing and presenting speeches as part of the process for electing our 2025 School Leaders. It’s been wonderful to see their confidence, leadership skills and ability to articulate their ideas shine through. We can’t wait to see who will step into these important roles next year!

In Maths, we’ve been sharing our learning with families during our Open Maths Morning. It was fantastic to see so many parents and carers join us, enjoying hands-on activities together.

The highlight of the fortnight, however, was undoubtedly our Arcade Games Expo! This term, students have been designing and building arcade games, showcasing their creativity, critical thinking and teamwork. On Monday we had the joy of sharing these games with the rest of the school, friends and family. The excitement and pride in the room was infectious as students explained their designs, demonstrated their games, and celebrated their hard work.

A big thank you to everyone who visited the Expo and contributed donations towards our upcoming Big Day Out. Your support means so much to our students and helps make these memorable experiences possible.

As always, we’re incredibly proud of the effort and enthusiasm our Year 5/6 students bring to their learning.

What We Are Learning

Reminders

Homework

Remember to complete your homework! Students are encouraged to read for 20 minutes each night and to stay on top of their Writing and Maths assignments, which are given every two weeks. All homework should be completed in homework books, and the reading diary needs to be updated daily.

Timelines

Students are able to continue to work on their timelines from home. They simply need to log into their Google account and access their work through Canva.

Graduation

Last week, the 2024 Graduation invitation was posted on Compass. Please note:

  • Students are welcome to bring their families to the Graduation ceremony. In previous years, students have invited their siblings and grandparents.
  • The dinner and disco are for students and staff only. Students must be collected from the stairs at the back of the hall at 9.15pm.

If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to email your child’s teacher.

Arcade Games

On Monday the 25th of November, the 5/6s invited all the classes to come to the hall to play our arcade games. We were hard at work for 6 weeks preparing for this extraordinary day. It started off with Prep and 1/2K, then 1/2F, 3/4S, 3/4F, and finally 3/4H. Everyone had a blast. There was also a voting station where, with every dollar you spent, you could get a vote. If you voted for the winning team then you ended up winning a free icy pole. Before announcing the winners, we invited all parents to come play the games. The team that ended up winning was Whack a Teacher. Everybody had a lot of fun and we can’t wait for next time!

School And House Captain Speeches

On Monday the 18th of November, the whole school gathered in their houses to decide who the 2025 House Captains would be. The Year 5s presented their House Captain speeches to their housemates. We had spent a couple of weeks preparing and practising our speeches. Everyone did an excellent job delivering their speeches.

On Tuesday the 19th of November, the Year 5s went to the hall to present their School Captain speeches to the current Year 4 and Year 5 students, and Mrs Hartley, Mrs Rheumer, Miss Whittington, Miss Harper and Mrs Spelman. We had written and practised our speeches over a couple of weeks before presenting them. Everyone showed great courage presenting their speeches, and they all did a fantastic job. After we presented our speeches, we all had the opportunity to vote.
