5/6L

The end of the year is fast approaching! Here is a snapshot into life in 5/6L this term. 

Advent Preparation:

The 5/6s are busy creating cards to go with a Christmas hamper for the residents at John Hannah House. We are also creating new symbols for a class Jesse Tree to represent the family of Jesus in different ways.

Explanation Texts:

This term we have learned about how to write an explanation text. We have created two texts - one on how states of matter change and one of our own choice. We are developing our skills in note-taking, and writing sentence summaries. 

Buddy Time!

We love spending time with our buddies in FKC! This term we have interviewed them to get to know our buddies more and worked together to draw a dragon. The grade 5s have done a fantastic job in supporting our Grade 6s and church buddies this year!

Future Leaders Program/Grade 6 Dance Practice:

The Grade 5s have participated in the Future Leaders Program to set them up for success when they become Grade 6 leaders in 2024. The components of the program are:

• What is a good leader? What are the qualities/attributes of a good leader? What skills do they have?
• Profiles of good leaders - Leadership in action. 
• Role descriptions and expressions of interest. Students can apply for more than one role.
• Resilience - Importance of ‘bouncing back’ if you miss out on a role. Examples vs non-examples. 
• Leadership workshop with students from Avila College.

Some of our Grade 6 Dancing Superstars!

Today we said goodbye to Amelia who is going on holiday with her family for the rest of the year. We wish her good luck for High School and best wishes for her future! A special mention also goes out to Tereisha and Co - we will miss you dearly at SJV and are always welcome for a visit.
