Year 6: Digital Technology and Literacy
Digital Technology and Literacy
Learning Intention:
To be able to scan for information, especially in dense texts.
Success Criteria:
I can read through the information and identify key information.
I can use the key information to create multiple choice questions using digital technology.
This week in Year 6, students explored an informational text titled ‘Travel to Morocco’ as part of our Inquiry Unit on Changing Populations, where we are examining different cities around the world.
In our recent PAT Reading assessment, we identified that our students needed support in the area of 'Scanning for Key Information'. To address this, we decided to design an engaging activity that incorporates digital technology to enhance this skill.
Students worked in pairs to read the text and pinpoint key information essential for understanding. They then used this information to create a multiple-choice quiz on Kahoot and Blooket, allowing them to test their classmates' comprehension of the material.
Below is a passage from the text along with some sample questions created by a student in Year 6.
Can you answer all the questions correctly?
