Holiday homework at VCE

All Year 11 and 12 VCE, VM and VPC subject teachers will be providing important holiday homework to students (2025 VCE and VM students) during the upcoming Step Up and Transition Days.

Students can reasonably be expected to have up to 3-5 hours of schoolwork to do over the holiday break for each subject.

Holiday homework must be completed and submitted on the first class for each subject upon students' return to school in 2025. Failure to complete holiday homework may result in attending a learning recovery session after school.

Upcoming Transition Days

Year 9 into 10 and Year 10 into 11

When? Friday 6 December

Who? All current Year 9 and 10 students are required to attend.

Purpose:  The Year 9 into 10 and Year 10 into 11 Transition Days are a pivotal event designed to ease the shift from Year 9/10 into VCE / VM. This day serves as a bridge; preparing students for the challenges and opportunities that come with entering their final years of secondary school.

The Senior School Team will host the day, providing students with an opportunity to reflect and celebrate the achievements and highlights of the year, as well as establish clear expectations around learning and attendance. Students will engage with several workshops designed to build learning confidence and create a positive mindset in preparing them for 2025.

Students are required to bring writing materials and notebook / paper for the day. Year 10 students will also be required to bring their laptops of one of the sessions.  More specific details for both transition days will be posted on MS Teams and Compass early next week.

Revision Assessment & Feedback (RAF) Cycle

Year 9/10 RAF cycle will occur during normal scheduled classes from Wed 27 Nov - Thu 5 December. More information regarding the RAF period has been posted on MS Teams and Compass. See the relevant document for information on:

  • What is the RAF cycle?
  • Purpose of RAF

  • What RAF means for teachers and students
  • Useful tips on what to do and how to prepare for each stage of the revision, assessment and feedback cycle

Teachers will provide students with:

  • An outline of the task students will engage in and items students will need to revise for your assessments.
  • Structured revision in class.
  • An assessment task sat under assessment conditions that is common to all classes for that subject.
  • An opportunity to engage fully with the feedback from the task through teacher, peer, and self-reflection.
  • An opportunity for students to reflect and evaluate revision in the lead up to an assessment.

Students are taught how to:

  • Plan their revision in the lead up to the assessment.
  • Revise using evidenced-based revision strategies for retrieval practice and application.
  • Self-assess their work.
  • Engage with and use feedback from a range of sources.
  • Support their peers in the learning process through peer-assessment and feedback.
