This week in STSS, students across all year levels have continued their exciting hands-on learning in Science, Technology, Sustainability and Stewardship, applying key concepts in interesting ways.
Foundation - Year 2 Our youngest learners have brought their creativity and knowledge of light and colour to life by using their design skills to build their own stained glass windows. They explored how different materials allow light to pass through them. This hands-on project has given students a chance to apply construction skills.
Year 3 - 4 In the middle years, students have continued their exploration of heat by learning about traditional Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ground ovens. They discussed how heat transfers through conduction in these ground ovens, where different materials are used to cook food effectively. This activity encouraged students to think about how different materials conduct heat and allowed for reflective discussions about real-life applications of science in various cultures.
Year 5 - 6 Our senior students have been finishing up their challenging mirror maze experiment, using the law of reflection to guide light to a designated target. This practical application of their scientific understanding has offered them an engaging way to witness how light reflects off surfaces with the Law of Reflection.
Thank you for supporting our budding scientists and design thinkers as they make interesting discoveries in STSS!
