What a year! And right up to the end we are having a great time wrapping up the year with celebrations, outings and special moments in the life of community. Here’s a snapshot of the last days of school at MECS for 2024!
It was very special to meet many of our Prep families as the big jump to school commences! Our Prep team were introduced and many questions were answered as parents navigate together what commencing formal schooling looks like. We look forward to seeing these little people grow and learn during next year. The changes that occur with Preps in confidence and learning is amazing and the way our Prep teachers guide our students is impressive.
Okay, I’m going to admit it, I anticipated the SP Christmas market to be a couple of small stalls with maybe some homemade biscuits and possibly a bit of fudge. I was wrong! Really wrong! The Christmas market was quite the event! From tinsel to bunting, crocheted chooks to dazzly earrings, rocky road to design your own gingerbread... and everything in between! The highlight for me though, was the incredible, grandpa and grandson made game to knock down the cardboard ducks with ping pong balls like you might find at an old country fair. Thanks SP for the wonderful experience of an outstanding Christmas market right here in our community.
I had a lovely afternoon celebrating our bus drivers over lunch. Our drivers miss out on being a part of many of our celebrations as they are of course, driving the bus runs at those times. It was lovely to have lunch together and be able to thank them for their service. Thanks team!
After a big year, our staff have been celebrating a number of things together, including some of the projects that they have been working on, in working groups and of course there have been relevant farewells and wrapping up of committees. Thank you to our hard working leaders who have coordinated these events.
There was quite the buzz at school on Tuesday morning as new students arrived to be introduced to their teachers and peers. Orientation day gives students the opportunity to experience life at MECS for a day before they start next year. Finding a connection and becoming familiar with their new space is very important. For existing students that are moving to a new class, it gives them the chance to settle in and get a taste of what’s to come, next year.
In the Senior School, our current Year 9s have begun early commencement into Year 10. This is their opportunity to get familiar with the Senior School, their teachers and the outlay of curriculum for next year.
We were super proud of our three Year 7 students: Mitch B, Noah G and Julius W who went to Sydney last week to represent MECS at the VEX Robotics, Australian National Championships. Even though the boys were disappointed that they didn’t qualify to head to America for the International Championships, we were just so impressed that they worked so hard to get as far as they did! Congratulations to our champions! Thanks too, to their very supportive teacher, Ash Ellis and to staff member, Gill Birkett for assisting on the trip.
This is a big event on the school calendar and this year it was held at the York on Lilydale. What a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our maturing Year 6 students as they step into Secondary School next year! The students did a beautiful job of their speeches and they just looked stunning! We were very proud of them.
