Year 3 - Middle Unit

Despite this being our very last newsletter for 2024, the action hasn’t stopped in Year 3!

In Reading, we’ve been practising recognising new words and phrases as we read. Students have been learning about synonyms and using them to help decode new, unfamiliar words they come across in their reading. Students have been using an online Thesaurus using the iPads to support their learning and this has been lots of fun!

In Writing, students have been choosing a piece of writing they have completed and have been working hard to revise, edit and finally, publish it. The Year 3 students will be sharing their amazing work with some of their Year 1/2 peers next week!

In Maths, Year 3 students have been having lots of fun learning all about money! This has included lots of practise with toy money and completing several real world tasks (such as budgeting for shopping lists and calculating change needed when purchasing items).

We were very excited to see that all Year 3 students have completed their teddy bears. They have been diligently working on these all term in Art, and they were able to show them off in assembly yesterday. All the Year 3 teachers were impressed with the level of enthusiasm and creativity the students have shown while completing these teddy bear masterpieces!

On Tuesday of this week, the Year 3 students ventured out to our Carlsruhe campus for their Year 4 transition morning. Students enjoyed jumping on the bus and meeting our lovely bus driver Phil (who had decked out his bus for Christmas). Once they arrived at Carlsruhe, students met their new teacher and got to know their new classmates. After a fun morning, everyone got back on the bus and returned to Woodend, full of excitement for a great year of learning ahead in Year 4! We cannot wait to watch them and see what each student achieves out at Carlsruhe in 2025!

Finally, we (the Year 3 teachers) would like to thank each and every family for your support through what has been another terrific year of learning. We are very proud of our wonderful Year 3 students and what they have each achieved over the past four terms.

We wish you all a very happy (and safe) Christmas and summer holiday period.

We hope Santa comes and visits each and every one of you! See you next year!
