Head of Secondary Years' Report

Dear Parents, Carers and Friends of Hazel Glen College,

It was so wonderful to see so many of you last week at the Art and Technology show and at the ADA Community Event on Tuesday night. So much work goes into the planning of these events and we are so grateful to the staff and students who organise them and to the families who attend.

These events are so important in building connections to school. Such connections go beyond just academic achievement. They are foundational to fostering a sense of belonging, motivation, and engagement. When students feel connected to their school, they are more likely to attend regularly, actively participate in experiences within and outside the classroom and have a positive experience at school.  These connections between families, students and the college are something we are looking forward to continue to build into 2025 and beyond.

That said, there are still plenty of opportunities for students and families to continue to build connections to school for the remainder of 2024.

Year 12 VCE exams are almost complete and we are looking forward to the Year 12 Graduation Presentation Ceremony on the 20th of November. This is always one of my favourite events on the calendar where we have the opportunity to come together as a community to join with families to celebrate and honour the class of 2024.

Our current Year 11 students will start their Year 12 journey on Monday, with a wonderful opportunity to build relationships and form strong connections at their 2 Day Study Retreat at La Trobe University. This event will set our class of 2025 up for success as they will hear from a range of speakers about resilience, developing optimal study skills, careers and pathways, managing the demands of VCE and caring for their social and emotional wellbeing. On Wednesday, they will commence their Year 12 studies to ensure that they are ready for the year ahead.

Our Year10 cohort commenced exams today and they will have their own early start program from the 25th of November where they will commence their year 11 program.

If you could spare five minutes, please take some time to fill out the Newsletter survey here. This will help with planning for 2025. The survey will close Wednesday, November 20th.
