TERM 3 WEEK 2 2025

Building a Respectful and Safe School Community

The Department for Education strongly emphasises the importance of respectful behaviour among parents, caregivers, visitors, staff and students to support a positive and safe learning environment. Key expectations include:

  • When visiting the school, visitors should have a genuine purpose (pickup/drop‑off, meeting, volunteering); comply with site procedures (e.g. sign in/out at the office); and only enter other areas with staff permission.

  • Behaviours that undermine a respectful environment, such as offensive language, intimidation, harassment, or aggressive conduct—online or in person—are not tolerated.

  • If inappropriate behaviour occurs, site leaders may intervene through reminders or formal warnings; in serious cases, police may be contacted.

Why This Matters to Our School

  • A respectful, trusting partnership between families and staff supports better learning outcomes and improves wellbeing for all.

  • Open, two-way communication and collaboration creates stronger community connections and school culture.

As partners in your child’s learning environment, we encourage all visitors to reflect this ethos in their interactions—respecting boundaries, modelling courtesy, and helping us maintain a safe space for students and staff alike.

What we can all expect

  • Mutual trust and respect
  • Collaboration and teamwork
  • Open, two-way communication
  • Respect for each other’s time.

What we ask of parents, carers, and other visitors

  • Be polite and respectful toward all other members of the education community
  • Model safe and appropriate behaviour around children and young people
  • Follow visitor protocols and directions given by staff
  • Discuss concerns with staff calmly and using the appropriate processes, so that we can work together with you to resolve them
  • Understand that staff are required to remain neutral and, for privacy reasons, can’t share details about other children or families with you
  • Keep issues that are not relevant to the school, preschool, or children’s service away from the learning environment.
