Weekend Recreational Activities

Boarders’ IN-Weekend Adventure Day - Sydney Harbour

On the first weekend back of Term 3, the Kambala Boarders enjoyed a fun-filled ‘IN-Weekend’ outing packed with excitement, teamwork, and unforgettable memories.

The day began with a relaxed and delicious Sunday brunch — the perfect way to fuel up for the big day ahead. After brunch, the group set off across beautiful Sydney Harbour by ferry, arriving at Circular Quay ready for a day of fun. The girls paused for the classic Harbour photo before stopping in at Starbucks for some morning tea and refreshments.

Next up was the ultimate team challenge at the Paniq Room in The Rocks, where the girls put their problem-solving and collaboration skills to the test in a series of immersive escape rooms. Teams were challenged with a range of exciting scenarios:

  • Supercell: Handcuffed and blindfolded in a prison cell, teamwork was key to escape.
  • Jumanji: Inspired by the adventurous board game, this room challenged girls to leave their world behind.
  • Senses: A mysterious magician’s house held secrets and surprises.
  • Wizardry: The wizarding world was in danger and needed rescuing.
  • Hotel Lift: A spooky hotel lift held puzzles that only the brave could solve!

After escaping (some with seconds to spare!), it was back to the harbour for the high-octane thrill of a Jetboat ride. With wild twists, turns, and plenty of 360-degree spins, the girls were left soaked, exhilarated, and laughing all the way back to the ferry. The group then returned to school with full heart, wet clothes, and plenty of stories to share.

It was a wonderful day of bonding, laughter, and adventure — a perfect reminder of the strength and spirit of our boarding community.

Boarder Birthdays

Our return to the house was a big celebration of 18th’s! Both Chloe and Taylor celebrated their birthdays with the girls whilst preparing for their upcoming trials.

Nevertheless, the girls celebrated in true style during the holidays with their families, with some even travelling to the Sunshine Coast for the big one-eight!

Saturday Sport

Saturday sport resumed this week, with our girls heading out across the city to take part in hockey, netball, and basketball. It was wonderful to see their energy and enthusiasm on full display as they represented our school with pride.

We strongly encourage all our boarders to join a Saturday sport team. Not only is it a fantastic way to stay active, but it also provides a valuable opportunity to connect with other girls from across the school community.

The benefits of regular exercise on both physical wellbeing and academic performance are well documented. Participation in team sports helps develop time management, resilience, and teamwork – skills that support success in and out of the classroom.

Holiday Stories

The Oxford Royale Summer School Program

In July, many of our Year 9 and 10 students participated in the Oxford Summer School Program, beginning with an exciting cultural tour of London. Highlights included visits to iconic landmarks such as Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace, the London Eye, Tower of London, the Globe Theatre, and two West End shows – Wicked and Les Misérables. Students also explored renowned museums, enjoyed local cuisine, and had the opportunity to shop in vibrant districts like Covent Garden and Soho. From 7–18 July, students joined the Oxford Royale Summer School, immersing themselves in academic courses and university-style living, with Kambala staff on standby throughout. The trip provided a rich blend of cultural exposure, independence, and global learning experiences.

“During our winter holidays, we ventured to England and spent 3 days in London and 2 weeks in Oxford. While in London, we explored the famous landmarks. At Oxford, we stayed at St Hugh's College, surrounded by beautiful gardens, where we learned about our chosen course in depth (Business and Film) and made many new friends from all over the world. This was a very memorable experience for us! Thanks to all the teachers involved in organising this trip! “

- Eve (Year 10) and Ellie (Year 9)

World Challenge Cambodia 2025

During the school holidays, a group of our students, including two boarders Emily and Zara, embarked on a life-changing World Challenge expedition to Cambodia. Over two weeks, they explored ancient temples, trekked through rural landscapes, and immersed themselves in local culture. A key highlight was working on a community project, where students helped support education and sustainability efforts in a local village. The experience fostered independence, teamwork, and global awareness, leaving students with lasting memories and valuable life skills.

“Over 18 days we learnt about the culture and history of Cambodia through going to museums and temples. We went on a 2 day hike in the jungle where we saw some elephant prints, many leeches and mosquitoes. The hike was followed by 4 days at a camp where we spent our time playing with the kids and building a workshop for the locals. We learnt so much about their day to day lives which are very different to ours. For our last couple of days we woke up early to watch the sunrise over the famous temples of Angkor Wat. It was a challenging experience but we were very happy that we got the opportunity to do it. “ - Zara, Year 10
