Principal's Message

A Message from the Principal

Welcome back to what promises to be another incredibly exciting and busy Term 3 at St Margaret Mary's.

As I return from leave, I want to extend a huge thank you to Mr Anthony Matthews for so capably leading the school as Acting Principal the last three weeks of term two. His dedication ensured a smooth and productive end of term for everyone. I also want to acknowledge the ongoing support and excellent work of Mrs Nancy Kubti as acting Assistant Principal and Mrs Francine Attard as acting Religious Education Coordinator for term two. Thank  you for a job well done to both.

During my leave last term, I had the opportunity to visit New York. While there, the 9/11 Memorial at the World Trade Centre held a particularly special significance for our school community. As many of you know, Stephen Tompsett, an ex-student of St Margaret Mary's, tragically lost his life while working at the Trade Centre on that fateful day. Standing next to his name on the memorial was such a moving moment and it created a real connection to our school's history and the impact of that tragic event.

In his memory, Stephen's parents, Jack and Rae Tompsett (who have now sadly passed away), established an annual scholarship. This award supports the high school education of two Year 6 students each year, continuing their legacy and Stephen's memory within our school.

We have a packed calendar this term, full of wonderful opportunities for our students. We look forward to various excursions, eisteddfods and gala days that will enrich learning experiences. We will also be celebrating our wonderful fathers and grandparents with special Father's Day and Grandparents' Day events – more details on these will follow soon. You will also notice significant progress on our new primary toilet block, a much-anticipated improvement for our students. And of course, there will be lots of engaging learning happening across all classrooms as our students continue to thrive.

On the academic front, the NAPLAN results have been released and we are incredibly proud of the efforts of our Years 3 and 5 students. They achieved strong results, reflecting their hard work and the excellent teaching they receive. These results will be sent home with your children tomorrow, Friday, July 25th.

If you wish to discuss your child's NAPLAN results, please make an appointment to meet with their teacher through the school office.

I look forward to a fantastic term three filled with learning, thriving and community.

Kind regard,

Grace
