It has been another busy productive week at Syndal South. I would like to share with you a poem written by Lincoln in Year 6. He is currently attending the writers workshop with Andrea Hillbrick, our Literacy Consultant.
Floating in space, so quiet and cold,
A shadow appears, dark and bold.
It hides in the sky, quiet and deep,
Holding the secrets it will keep.
It pulls with power, strong and wide,
Nothing can run, not even light can hide.
A force so big, we cannot see,
But still it grabs both you and me.
It swirls like water down a drain,
It stretches stars, with no pain.
A silent storm, a crushing wave,
Where all our prior knowledge of space fades.
On Friday our amazing Foundations celebrated their ‘100 Days at School’ and what a celebration it was. All the students came dressed in their party gear ready to have a day loaded with fun. Miss Derrick and Ms Antzoulatos had planned all the activities around the number ‘100’. The students enjoyed a special party lunch, with a highlight being the delicious cupcakes baked at school.
As mentioned in the previous newsletter, our boys football team and the girls’ soccer team competed in the divisional finals. It was a huge accomplishment to make it through to the finals and both teams did an amazing job. Special thanks to Andrew Hollywood for managing and offering support and lots of encouragement to the boys’ football team and to Dylan from NextGen Soccer who came and volunteered his time to coach the girls’ soccer team leading up to the final.
Some good news is, we had our first meeting for the Toilet Upgrade on Wednesday.
The builders, Chippa Constructions, are planning to start the project next Friday 15th August. The plan is to remove the asbestos from the site on Saturday 16th August. There will be an exclusion zone set up on Saturday, I suggest that families do not visit the school on this day. On the completion of the asbestos removal, we will receive a clearance certificate from the hygienist, to confirm that the site is safe to occupy.
A reminder that we have Curriculum Day coming up on Friday 22nd August, so no students attend school on this day. TeamKids are available from 7.00 am to 6.30 pm if you require this service.
The focus for the teachers on this professional learning day will be Reading and Vocabulary.
We are all very much looking forward to Book Week. We will be having our annual Book Week Dress Up Parade on Monday 25th August at 9.00 am. Mrs Panagopoulos has organised for Ben Wood a well-known children’s book illustrator to come and visit and discuss his work with the students.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Heidi, who over Term One and Two worked tirelessly in our Library with Mrs Robinson. Heidi was here every week on a Friday, completing the returns and shelving books. Thank you, Heidi from all of us at Syndal South.
Finally, thank you to our wonderful SRC for organising our special ‘Donut Day’ tomorrow. Money raised will ensure our HARMONY Poster will be framed for display in the school foyer.
