Grade 3 & 4

Literacy

Information reports

Students spent time investigating the structure of information reports, whilst learning about some well known people in the process. They then wrote an information report on a well known person of their choice. This involved developing their research skills to identify key information, and then presenting this in their own words to inform an audience. Some people chosen by students were: Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish,

Nelson Mandela and Lebron

James.

+ rhetorical Questions (asking a question you already know the answer to).

Maths

This term in maths we have focused on multiplication, division and money. They learned a range of different strategies to solve equations such as short division, box method, number lines and vertical addition/subtraction with decimals.

The students in pairs were tasked with going "shopping" and buying the teachers various items within the allocated budget.

Money Spending Task

Knowledge Unit - 'Making Change'

This term students have delved into how to be change makers in their local area.

They explored the differences between all levels of government and how people are elected at each level.  Students worked to identify the different rules that are the responsibility of different government levels.

Students were asked to identify areas of CHANGE they would like to see in Epsom and explore how it would impact our community. Students' learning was represented at the end of term with a "Project of Change' task.

Students worked in groups of 3 or  4 to create a proposal, design, choose a political party name, choose a representative, create a slogan and then make a model of their prosed idea.

Mayor Visit

We had the Mayor, Andrea Metcalfe, visit us and explain how councillors are chosen, what their jobs entail and she answered many, many questions that the students had! The students have been inspired by how they can make change and will put this to use with their 'Making A Change' Project ideas!

Respectful Relationships- Strong Emotional Scales

Students reflected on strong emotions and what things can make us all react strongly and place ourselves in the Red or Yellow zones on our emotional regulation scales in class. They then created their own 'Strong Emotions Scales'.

BOOK WEEK

Another wonderful Book Week at Epsom!  We were utterly impressed with the range of amazing, inventive, clever and fun costumes! Well done EVERYONE!

Some student reflections...

Abbi M 3/4S - On Thursday 28th we had our Book Parade. When all the class had gone, the students councillors had to choose the winners. In first place was Harvey and in second was me. Before that we all had a dance party.

Maria G 3/4/S - On Thursday we had our school Book Week parade. It was stupendous! People had so much fun and we had a dance party at the end. I dressed up as Hermione from Harry Potter, Ruby dressed up as Frida Kahlo, Ayak was Kurumi and Ally was Pikachu.

Zara W 3/4S - On Thursday our school had Book Week. All the judges loved our outfits. Who came first? It was Harvey. He dressed up as 'Eye Spy' from a book. All the kids loved the teachers outfits.

CAMP

Our adventure to Sunnystones camp was amazing! We participated in canoeing, camp cooking, archery and geocaching. The weather was perfect for our camp adventures and trying new things! We were so proud of all our students for how they undertook challenges, showed resilience and had great teamwork!

Harvey McK  -On Monday our class, 3/4C and half of 3/4PM went to camp Sunnystones to stay the night. We got dropped off at the start of a trail and went hiking to get to camp.

When we got up we had some lunch and free time. Me, Paw and Carolyn went to see the lookout, we could see the whole forest that we walked through. After free time we went geocaching and looked through the trees and bushes to find boxes. My team won with 130 points,

Afterwards we went to our cabins and chilled.

Next we had taco bowls for dinner and then apple crumble and ice cream for dessert. Then we could choose to go to the games room or watch a movie. We all had so much fun.

Carolyn W - 3/4S,3/4C and half of 3/4MP went on a 3km walk to the cabins. It was so fascinating to see all of the wombat burrows and the beautiful plants. We played at the hill at camp and saw the amazing view

The dinner was soo good it was a taco bowl it was healthy and yummy at the same time the breakfast was so good too and the cabins were so cool! It has an awesome view of the forest we walked in, and next to the dining area there was a game room. It had lots of fun games. There was also a tv, a couch , a bean bag and lots of more fun things.

But what I think is the best was the activities it had archery, canoeing, bush cooking, and geocaching my favourite. I also liked the yummy, yummy hot dogs at lunch and the sweet icy poles then we left Sunnystones camp.

Guinea Pigs

This term 3/4S welcomed our new classmates....2 guinea pigs!

They are so, very cute! They spend the day in our class and then head back out to the Green Nest for the night. At the moment only adults and the Wellbeing Student Team can handle them, while they get used to being in the classroom.

While they were very, very nervous and shy to begin with, they are becoming more confident and sneaking out for a snack and a drink while we are in the class.
