Grade 1

Amazing Grade Ones
Dear Grade One Families,
What an exciting Term 3 it has been in Grade One! Our students have shown wonderful growth in their learning, taking on new challenges with curiosity and enthusiasm. We’ve been busy strengthening our reading, writing, and maths skills, and it has been fantastic to see students becoming more confident, independent learners.
This term, we’ve explored engaging texts, extended our phonics knowledge, and discovered new strategies to solve maths problems. Students have also been building their speaking and listening skills through class discussions, presentations, and collaborative activities.
We are so proud of all the effort and achievements this term. Thank you for your ongoing support—it makes such a difference. We look forward to continuing this learning journey together in Term 4!

FRIENDLY REMINDERS
As we are about to continue another exciting term of learning, here are a few friendly reminders to help keep our students happy, healthy, and ready for the school day:
⭐ PE & Healthy Bodies Days – Please ensure your child wears comfortable uniform and suitable shoes for movement.
📚 Library & Home Reading – Don’t forget to pack your child’s library bag and home reader journal along with their decodable readers each week.
🧢 Hats & Drink Bottles – A wide-brimmed hat is essential for outdoor play, and a water bottle helps keep students hydrated throughout the day.
🥗 Healthy Lunchboxes – We encourage nutritious snacks and lunches to fuel growing minds. Please remember that lollies are not allowed at school.
🚫 Toys at School – To avoid distractions and lost items, we ask that toys stay at home.
🚫 Make-up, Beauty Products and Jewellery at School – To avoid distractions and lost items, we ask that all make-up, beauty products and jewellery stay at home.
🌰 Allergy Awareness – We have a student with a severe peanut allergy (anaphylaxis) in Grade One. To help keep everyone safe, please avoid sending any peanut products in your child’s lunchbox.
Thank you for your support in helping our Grade One students have a smooth and successful term!
GREEN NEST DISCOVERY
In our Green Nest, the students have been busy connecting with nature and caring for living things. They’ve planted and nurtured capsicum seeds, learning how patience and care help plants grow. The horses have enjoyed a good grooming as the children practiced gentleness and responsibility. Our feathered friends have been part of story time too, with students sharing their reading alongside the chickens. The guinea pigs and chickens have also been well fed, with students showing kindness and teamwork in looking after them.
BOOK WEEK
This week we celebrated the magic of reading during Book Week! With the theme “Book an Adventure”, our students explored how books can take us anywhere - from faraway lands to hidden treasures right here at home. Classrooms were buzzing with stories, creative activities, and plenty of imagination. The highlight was our Book Week parade, where students dressed as their favourite characters and shared the adventures they’ve discovered in their reading. Thank you to our school community for supporting and encouraging a love of books - together we’ve shown that every page is the beginning of a new adventure!
FATHERS DAY
Celebrating our fabulous fathers and special people!
We loved welcoming our students and their dads into the Music Room for our Father’s Day Open Classroom. Together they shared special moments playing table tennis, colouring in, and enjoying the relaxed, creative space. It was wonderful to see the children proudly sharing these activities with their dads and celebrating the special learning experiences that make our school community unique.
PYJAMA DAY
What a cosy day we had for Pyjama Day! Students and staff came dressed in their favourite PJs, dressing gowns, and slippers, filling our school with comfort and smiles. It was wonderful to see everyone embrace the fun and enjoy a relaxed day of learning together. Thank you to our school community for supporting the event and helping make it such a memorable day!
WRITING
In Writing, students have been developing their skills by exploring different sentence types and learning how to add detail using adjectives. They have also been working on information writing, learning how to organise facts and present ideas clearly. It’s been great to see students becoming more confident writers as they practise expressing themselves in creative and informative ways.
MATHS
In Maths this term, students have been exploring a wide range of concepts through hands-on learning and problem solving. They have worked with number sequences and skip counting, practised grouping and sharing, and learned to represent, compare and discuss data. Students also investigated 3D objects by identifying similarities and differences, and built their measuring skills by comparing capacity and mass. It has been wonderful to see their growing confidence and enthusiasm as they make connections in their mathematical thinking.
Patterns: A repeating pattern is a pattern that repeats itself over and over again - Mia K.
Examples such as:
AABB - Lilly B.
AABBCC - Archie B.
ABCD - Addy B.
AABC - Avaliah R.

SCIENCE
In Science, we have been exploring the external features of living things and where they live. Students are learning to observe carefully and describe how animals and plants meet their needs in different environments. We are also investigating how living things grow and change over time. It has been wonderful to see curiosity shine as students make connections between living things and the world around them.
DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES
In our computer sessions, students have been building their digital skills by practising text typing and exploring programs such as Microsoft Word and PowerPoint. They are learning how to create documents, format text, and present their ideas in slideshows. It’s been exciting to see their confidence grow as they become more familiar with using technology to support their learning.
