Hairy Connections

Animal-Assisted Program

What is Hairy Connections?

Hairy Connections is the name of our animal-assisted program. Animals have a unique ability to create calm, supportive, and engaging environments for students. We have chooks, guinea pigs, and a pony!

Introducing our Guinea Pigs

This term, the guinea pigs were introduced to the classrooms! Well done to the Student Wellbeing Team, who collect the guinea pigs each morning from the Green Nest and deliver them to their designated classrooms. Each afternoon, they collect all the guinea pigs and put them back in their enclosure for the night.

Guinea Pig Village - Designed by our Prep students

After visiting our guinea pig enclosure in the Green Nest and watching a video about Tasmania's 'Tiny Town' for guinea pigs, our Preps designed their own guinea pig village.

Well done to Austin in Prep D, who recently presented at the Bendigo Northern District Community Enterprise (BNDCE) and spoke about the village and how they came up with all the ideas. He even brought along his pet guinea to the meeting! The committee was very impressed and gave the school a grant of $1320 towards our Sawdust & Smiles project. This will kick off our intergenerational program that will start next term. Grade 5 students will be working with the Huntly Men's Shed to make the Prep's Guinea Pig Village come to life!
