Grade 5 & 6

📚 Book Week- Book an Adventure! 📚

The morning started in pure chaos, there were parents everywhere buying drinks from the coffee van and our school was filled with heaps of creative characters ready to parade, and party. We saw a bunch of different costumes and characters. Everyone was really dressed up and into character, almost all of the students participated.

The DJ’s started the music and then the parade started. We really got to see everyone’s outfits and books. After the student council had judged every class, we had a huge dance party. Afterwards, the student council announced all the first and second place winners, book and certificate for first prize and then a certificate and house points for second place. We had a fun time, and shout-out to all the dinosaurs.

🎤 The Blurbs 🎤

The burbs were fun and shared the book week stories. Two turtles, Spiro and the truck cat. The Two turtles were about two turtles always competing against each other.

Spiro was about a little spider who couldn’t catch her food until one day… she caught a fly moth and stink bug! The truck cat is about a little cat named Tinka who faced challenges to find his human YacoUb instead he meets a girl called Mari.

The Blurbs put in jokes to keep us entertained, like the bald princess and other funny stories.

There were students versus teachers, and a dance party at the end. They had hysterical outfits and wigs for jokes and PARTY! We had a really good time and we all appreciate the Blurbs for coming.

🤸‍♀️ Jets Gym🤸‍♀️

Jets gym was very fun. We did lots of interesting stuff, the tumble trampoline was my favourite. - Maali W

My favorite part of Gym was climbing up the ropes! Only Sofia, Delilah, Hayley, Ella, Theo, Connor and Dusty reached the top. - Eden

I enjoyed the tumble trampoline and jumping onto the air mattress. It was a bit tricky to climb out as you need to put more effort into getting out. - Aria

The Grade 5/6s had gymnastics at Jets in week 4 and 5, and we had a blast! We did 6 events in general; floor, bar, beam, trampoline, tumbling trampoline, and vault!

It was so fun and awesome! We looked forward to going every morning! My favourite was the trampolines. - Lucy

It was fun! Doing the beam, jumping on the tramp, cart wheels, all better than I expected - Milly

Floor

We did a lot of exciting activities on floor like handstands and cartwheels over the box and if you were brave enough you could do them without the box. We even climbed the ropes!

Beam

On beam we had heaps of fun trying to balance on them, and as many times as we fell off, it was still so much fun! We jumped, stepped, even galloped over foam blocks, and on different beams we even tried walking backwards, sideways, and forwards.

Vault

On vault we did candlestick on rings, penguin walks (which was very hard) on the P bars (which are two parallel wooden bars) and then for the vault we ran and jumped on to a mat where we could do a dive roll at the end.

Trampoline

On trampoline, we practiced our jumps, drops, and turns. We did front and back drops which were scary for some people, half and full turns, and jumps like tuck, straddle, and pike. We also did seat drops.

Tumbling Trampoline

We only got to use the tumble trampoline on the last week of gymnastics because we had vault, so we switched them around so we got to use both. We got to do rocket jumps until we reached the mattress that we could do dive rolls on. After we did our roll, we got to do a trust fall onto the pit. It was so much fun!

Bar

On the biggest bar we did swings and then landed on the red dot. Then on the metal bar we did low swings where we had to lift up our legs and hold them in an L shape. Then on the medium bar we tried to do kips. Then finally on the last bar we did flips and spins.

On the last day we did lots of fun activities and Sofia and Imogen Allan got to do some crazy stunts.  We had so much fun, thank you for having us Jets!

👦 Convict Boy - Novel Study 👦

I liked that it is an educational book that sucks in the reader and captures you in a world of facts mixed with a storyline– Historical Fiction. This is a good way to attract new readers and educate them. I thought the book was very interesting because it is very entertaining by how the convict past was and how they worked and survived.

This book is good for educational uses for a school. It captivates us, the students, while educating. It is a good way to teach while leaning into child interests. The book convict boy is a great book by showing us (kids) how it was in the past compared to now where we can just play games. I recommend reading Convict Boy because it is an interesting educational book that increases understanding of the Convict Past.

💯 Maths 💯

Throughout Term 3 in numeracy, the grade five-six team did lots and lots of different stuff. From looking at ‘mean’, ‘median’ and ‘mode’ to collecting and comparing data. To finding out about the housing market prices, and learning how to interpret this data over time. We made different types of graphs with the data we had gathered from past information and some of the graphs were really good! The grade 5/6 unit really enjoyed learning all these new things.

-Delilah and Lexi

Collecting graphs and data was interesting. We learnt a lot about collecting and making graphs on the Epsom housing market. - Knox

“I've really enjoyed the curriculum around percentages and decimals. It helps with understanding the world around us for when we have to do shopping and are looking for sales and things.” - Ben H and Cody S.

"Learning about interpreting data this Term was great. Finding out more about the housing market and the pricing was really interesting." - Denny Gandhi

🌯 FEAST Program! 🌯

This term in FEAST we cooked up home made vegetarian burritos and learnt how to cook the burritos and fold them. First we cut the onion tomato and carrots and cooked up some kidney beans. Then we added spice and the other ingredients and folded  the wrap and ate it. Overall this cooking experience was great! The burritos tasted so good! Thank you FEAST and Mrs Fullard for making this cooking experience possible-from Blaine, Hunter and Marshall.

👩‍🔬 Flashback! Term 2- Inquiry Presentation 👨‍🔬

On the 2nd of July the 5/6 cohort had our amazing inquiry convention. Where we showed off our biographies, dioramas, posters and some made videos to show off their scientist. Some of the scientists included Jane Goodall, Thomas Edison, Nikola Tesla, Isaac Newton, Albert Einstein, Joseph Lister and many more fun and very interesting people to research about. Without them the world wouldn’t be the same place we know today and we wouldn’t be able to call it home. Thank you to Miss Chamings, Mr Gilmore, Mrs O’Connor and Mr Palmer and Miss Aburrow for the fun-filled experience.
