Assembly - 2:30 pm

Families are invited to our school assembly where the Foundation class will have a short parade and share some of their favourite things about their first 100 days of school!

Assembly is held at 2:30 pm on the deck (or in the high school drama centre if the weather is bad)

Please enter via the school office and sign in first.

You are welcome to take photos and video; however, we request that you only share images of your own child on social media, no group images please.

Swim/Gym

This week, we will commence our swim and gym program with the Year 1 students.

Students must wear their bathers to school under their uniform t-shirt and jumper.

Students will need to bring:

  • a towel
  • underwear
  • goggles and/or swim cap only if they need it
  • a plastic bag for wet things
  • plenty of food

Recess snack is eaten at school at 10am, and lunch is after swimming before Gym, so you can imagine how hungry the students get! Please name everything.

The dates for Swim/Gym are:

  • Friday 1st August
  • Friday 8th August
  • Friday 15th August
  • Friday 22nd August
  • Friday 29th August

Literacy

Phonics is continuing to be a fun and routine way to start our day. It has been wonderful to see how much everyone has remembered over the 2-week break!

Handwriting is looking amazing, and our letter formation is getting better every day!

We are working hard on blending when reading words out loud with "our voices on".

When listening to your child read their home reading, you can use the phrase "voice on" to remind them to blend the letter sounds out loud to solve the word they are reading.

Numeracy

We have been revisiting the importance of counting one-to-one and practising counting forwards and backwards from 0 to 20. We have also refreshed how to make collections and sort items using their features, such as colour, shape or size. We enjoyed making patterns with colours, objects or actions.

This week we have begun learning about length and height. Investigating things that are tall, short and long.

Integrated Studies

The final project for our Integrated Studies unit last term had the students taking the features of two or more animals and inventing a new creature! They then had to think about what habitat this unique creature may live in based on these chosen features. There were many laughs and giggles when students presented their animals and habitats to the class.
