Principal's message

Welcome to Term 3

Welcome back to Term 3! I hope all our students, families, and staff had a restful and refreshing break. As we begin the second half of the school year, I’m excited about the many opportunities ahead for learning, growth, and connection across our school community. Term 3 is always a busy and rewarding time, with events that showcase the incredible talents and efforts of our students and staff. I look forward to working together to ensure every student continues to thrive in a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment.

School Development Day

Term 3 began with PPS hosting the first combined School Development Day for School Learning and Support Officers (SLSOs).

Sixteen SLSO's from Carlton PS, Hurstville Grove Infants and Peakhurst PS engaged in professional learning to build their knowledge and understanding to best support students with Autism. The professional learning provided time for the SLSO's engage in evidence-based research, reflect on current practices implemented in schools and build their capacity in providing visual supports to students. The day was such a success, further opportunities to engage as a community of schools for SLSO's is a priority.

NAPLAN Reports

NAPLAN Reports were sent home last week to families of students in Years 3 and 5. Over the coming weeks, the school executive will analyse the data to identify trends in the student results to inform future teaching and learning. These will be shared with teachers and community.

If you have questions regarding your child's report or progress, please contact the school office to make an appointment to discuss with your child's teacher.

External Validation

The school successfully engaged in the school excellence cycle and completed the evidence sets for the submission targeting Data Informed Practices, Teaching and Learning Practices and School Culture. These are three areas the school has had significant shift in aligning explicit teaching over the past 2 years. The process requires the school to submit annotated evidence sets depicting the practices across the school, followed by a discussion with a Lead Panelist and Peer Principal. This discussion was hosted at school last Thursday, with Mrs Wilson, Mrs Schafer, Mrs Partridge, Mrs Zell and myself. Our guests were greeted by our school captains, Leo and Layla, who delivered a warm and friendly welcome, engaged in a guided tour of the school and answered all the curious questions posed.

The External Validation process allows a school to pause and evaluate the impact of the practices implemented across the school. With the lens of new curriculum implementation, refining how we explicitly teach and the introduction of the Student Behaviour Support and Management Plan, which have all been new initiatives for our school, we were very pleased with the final outcome. Across the elements in the School Excellence Framework we are Excelling in School Resources and Reporting, and demonstrated strong Sustaining and Growing for Curriculum, Effective Classroom Practice, Data Skills and Use, Professional Standards and Educational Leadership elements. To shift ourselves into the Excelling for the 5 elements identified as strong requires consistency across the school. I am very proud of the trajectory our school is on as we embark in the development of the new School Excellence Plan.

Education Week Open Day

As part of Education Week 2025, I’m delighted to invite all members of our school community to join us for our Open Day Celebrations on Wednesday 6th August. This special occasion is an opportunity to showcase the rich learning, creativity, and community spirit that define our school. Education Week is a time to celebrate public education and the incredible achievements of our students and staff, and we would be honoured to share this with you.

Our Open Day will include classroom visits, student performances, and a chance to see firsthand the dynamic and supportive learning environment we are so proud of. Your presence means a great deal to our students, and we warmly welcome parents, carers, extended family members, and community partners to be part of the celebration.

We look forward to seeing you there and celebrating the power of public education together.

School Show

I am thrilled to inform our community we are in full swing in preparations for our School Show at the end of the term – a vibrant celebration of imagination and talent. The arts give our students a powerful way to express who they are, explore big ideas, and connect with others in meaningful ways. Whether through visual art, music, drama, or dance, every piece in the show reflects our students’ courage to create and their passion to share. I hope you will be able to join us at the end of term for a matinee or evening performance.
