Italian Term 3

Students have made a great start to Italian learning this term.
Our Preps have continued to learn the sounds associated with the Italian alphabet and they have begun learning to count in Italian by singing songs, listening to stories, playing games and using ELLA (Early Learning Languages Australia) apps to assist them with their learning. This week they have particularly shown interest and their competitive side in the game of Tombola (bingo) which focused on numbers 0-20.
Our Year 1 and 2 students have been focusing on transactional language where they are learning to make simple requests in Italian. To assist their learning, they have participated in guided role plays to help them practice the language needed to ask for something in Italian. Modelled on the ELLA (Early learning Languages Australia) app 4 “The Zoo”, the students participated in a role play set in a café whereby they had to ask for drink and food items in Italian. Students also practiced language they have previously learnt such as greetings and functional language such as please and thank you.
Our Year 3 and 4 students have started the term by building on language needed to express an opinion or give an explanation, about what they like to do at home. They have formulated questions and exchanged information with the assistance of modelled examples. They have commenced the term participating in oral language activities such as ‘tangled translations’ and ‘fill in the gaps’, and will move on to written responses later in the term.
Our Year 5 and 6 students are focusing on the language of description and sharing preferences. Students have been exposed to new vocabulary to build on what they already know. They have engaged in various oral language activities such as ‘mystery words’ and ‘guess the phrase’ to assist them with using and practicing the new language. They have focused on pronunciation and grammatical structure when exchanging information with their peers. Later in the term the students will work towards creating a written paragraph using descriptive language about their home and their interests at home.
