Foundation- Grade 1: Miss Emmett

We are nearly at the end of the term, but there is still so much happening in our Foundation/1 classroom! The students continue to be busy learners, exploring new ideas, building on their skills and enjoying lots of exciting opportunities.

In Literacy, we have begun our Grammar Project lessons from OCHRE. These lessons are helping us learn about the building blocks of sentences, including nouns, verbs, adjectives and punctuation. Through hands-on activities, games and shared texts, students are discovering how words and sentences work together to create meaning. This foundation is giving them the tools to become confident readers and writers.

In Mathematics, we have been exploring sharing and grouping. Students have been working with counters, blocks and everyday objects to practise dividing collections into equal groups and understanding what it means to share fairly. These activities are helping them develop early division concepts and strengthen their number sense in practical, engaging ways.

The excitement is also building as we practise our dances for the upcoming school production. The students are having fun learning the steps, moving to the music, and working together as a team. It has been wonderful to see their confidence grow as they prepare to shine on stage.

This fortnight we are also looking forward to a range of exciting experiences including watching the St Augustine’s College Production of Shrek, participating in our own school production, attending the AFL Victoria Small School Cluster Day, and going on our F/1 Fun Day to Bendigo where we will enjoy activities such as Little Ninjas Warriors.

Grade 2: Miss Wooden

The Grade 2s have enjoyed exploring 2D and 3D shapes. During hands-on activities and engaging lessons, students explore the unique properties of various shapes, ranging from basic triangles and squares to more complex geometric figures. By manipulating these shapes with multiple materials, they develop spatial awareness and critical thinking skills. We used tangrams to create animals with different 2D shapes. We also had a competition to build a tower with 3D shapes, experimenting with which shapes are the best to use.

We had a heartwarming experience visiting the local aged care home, where they showcased their dance routines for the residents. The students performed with enthusiasm and joy, bringing smiles and a sense of nostalgia to the audience. It was wonderful to witness the connections formed between the children and the residents as they shared stories and laughter. This opportunity not only allowed our students to express their creativity but also fostered a sense of community and understanding across generations. The visit was a memorable highlight, emphasising the importance of kindness and companionship.

Grade 3: Mrs Stock

It has been a very busy fortnight as we prepare for our whole school production. It was wonderful to come together as a school and see all of our hard work taking shape. The students are very excited and looking forward to performing on September 15th. We are also looking forward to attending St Augustine’s production in Kyabram on September 11th.

In Maths, students have been exploring Shape. They have shown a strong understanding of 3D objects, being able to make, compare and classify them using their key features.

Everyone enjoyed our special morning celebrating the marvelous men in our lives. A highlight was the football clinic, where the dads joined in on the fun! The students were also very grateful to the adults who organised and prepared our Marvellous Men stall.

This week, we were delighted to welcome Charlie and Ollie’s mum into our classroom to observe a Literacy lesson. The students loved the opportunity to share their learning.

In Reading, our class novel The Iron Man has kept everyone engaged. As we near the end, we are excited to soon begin our next book—Charlotte’s Web.

Grade 4: Miss Dove & Mrs McKiernan

Grade 5-6: Miss Rasmussen

Our Grade 5/6 students have been working hard and making great progress across all areas of their learning!

Mathematics

We have just finished our unit on angles, where students explored complementary and supplementary angles. Everyone can now confidently identify acute, right, obtuse, reflex, straight and revolution angles. It’s been great to see students applying their knowledge to solve problems. Next up in Maths, we will be diving into decimals.

English

In Reading, we are nearing the end of Tom Appleby: Convict Boy. Tom has arrived in Australia and is now experiencing life as a convict with the extra privileges of living with a sergeant and his son, who is the same age. Alongside reading the text, students are writing information reports on the reasons for settlement in Australia and what life was like for the early settlers.

We have also been focusing on improving our typing skills during English lessons and are seeing pleasing improvements in technique. Partner reading continues to support the development of strong reading strategies, with students learning from and encouraging each other.

Production Practice

Rehearsals for our upcoming school production are in full swing. Lines are becoming more confident, and our dances are looking fantastic. The energy and enthusiasm students bring to rehearsals is infectious, and we are looking forward to sharing all our hard work with the community soon.
