On Thursday we went to camp and everyone in our class had to be at school by 8:15am ready to leave on the bus in the morning. Once we arrived at Collaroy, we dropped off our bags in a room called Home Sanctuary before meeting our instructors - Paul, Maddie and Finn. We were split into two teams to complete these awesome activities over the next two days…
Challenge Course
The first activity was the challenge course. The first challenge we did was on a beam and we had to arrange ourselves in the order of birthdays without speaking to each other. We successfully completed the challenge and only lost 1 out of 3 lives. The second activity was in pairs and we had to blindfold our partner and give them instructions to move through a maze. The third challenge was super fun. We were told that we were stranded on an island and our raft was just out of reach. In the water there were sharks and we had to swing on a rope to safely get on the raft. Luckily my whole team fit on the raft! The last challenge we had to complete was to balance on a seesaw or reach the top of a wall whilst working in a team. It was a great way to start our camp experience!

High Ropes
The second activity we participated in was the high ropes course. The instructors gave us a quick run through on how to put our 2 harnesses on and a few other safety tips. There were 2 courses available to try - a 10 metre one and a 5 metre one. If people felt unsafe attempting these they could also stay and cheer friends on at the bottom. We were able to try each path multiple times and set personal goals like run the whole obstacle. Both paths allowed us to overcome fears whilst attempting new things and most importantly having lots of fun with our friends. It was a very great experience that I’m sure everyone will remember for life.

Laser Tag
The third activity we played was laser tag. The class was split into two teams, red and blue, and the point of the game was that we had to tag the players on the opponent team. I was on the red team and decided to hide in my base for the first round. Once the second round started, I quickly ran out of base and started tagging players on the blue team. After four exciting rounds, it was a tie, with each team winning two rounds. It was time for the deciding match! My teammates and I came up with a plan to all run towards the blue team to deactivate them. As soon as the game started we ran and started tagging them and my team won! We all jumped in joy and hugged each other and high fived the blue team. I think it was a great experience and would love to do it again.

Night Games
The night games were a great way to end the day. Our group leader, Paul, led us in so many fun activities that focused on enhancing our agility skills. We played a game of Evolution (a scissors, paper, rock game), collaboratively worked in groups to create a pose and then played a competitive game of dragons tail ending in the winners competing in a championship. These games were a great way to learn how to work as a team through collaboration and clear communication. Following this, we all went back to our cabins to get into our pyjamas. Some of us went to the common room where we all played a game of uno and socialised before going to bed. This part of the night was special and I know it's one to remember.

Rock Climbing
Rock climbing was one of the activities we completed on the second day of camp. There were three different levels of difficulty and if you weren't rock climbing then you were belaying, which meant you were helping your friends get up and down the wall safely. Each course had its own challenges but the most difficult one had rocks so tiny that you almost couldn’t use them! Even when we thought about giving up, our amazing teammates cheered and supported us no matter what. Our amazing guide, Amanda, helped us climb and encouraged us to do our best. Camp was absolutely amazing. There was not a single bit I didn't enjoy.

Archery
The second activity we completed on day two was archery. The instructors explained how to safely place the arrows on the bow before aiming and shooting at the target. We were all hoping to hit the bullseye. We practised aiming and shooting the arrows at the targets before playing some fun games. We worked in teams to hit certain colours on the target that were worth different points and the team with the largest total won the round. I liked trying archery as it was a different experience and it helped us build skills to work together with our teammates.

We enjoyed all the meals at camp and had some free time on the grassed area before having to leave to go back to school. We were all exhausted and sad that camp had ended. Overall, it was such an amazing experience and Year 6 are all so grateful to our teachers and Mrs Baker for organising it and creating this lasting memory in our last year of primary school.
Next week parents will have the opportunity to meet with the class teacher to discuss their child’s learning goals for Semester Two.
