In Literacy, students have been developing key literacy skills, including reading, spelling, handwriting, and understanding letter sounds, with a focus on the long /ee/ sound. Through shared reading of Two Mates, students explored the theme of friendship, linking their learning to Harmony Week. Rich discussions supported students to build their comprehension as they identified characters, settings, and key events in the story. Students practised identifying and using nouns, verbs, and adjectives in simple sentences to describe characters’ actions, feelings, and traits, while continuing to learn about different elements of a story.

In Maths, students explored measurements by using informal units to measure different objects around the classroom and even themselves. This helped them understand how length and height can be measured and compared in meaningful, practical ways.
Students have also been developing their understanding of data through hands-on learning experiences. They learnt how to sort objects into different categories and discussed how items can be grouped in more than one way. Students collected data by conducting simple class surveys, recorded their findings using tally marks, and represented the information by creating pictographs.

This week, students began learning how to use laptops to research their own inquiry topics. They practiced reading information from books and safe online sources, taking notes, and working with group members to create their own timelines. These experiences help students build important research, collaboration, and digital literacy skills, while also developing their ability to organise information and understand how events change over time.
