Thank you for a wonderful first term of learning, particularly in the Social and Emotional learning space. It has been wonderful to see so many students doing a fantastic job of upholding the school values - Respect, Responsibility and Resilience. Teachers are always noticing the ways that students care for their friends and for younger students in the playground and how they are developing a strong sense of their roles and responsibilities at school.

I have begun sending Positive Observations through Compass Chronicle to families when I have seen your child demonstrate our school values without needing to be prompted. These will appear as a Green coded post.

I had the pleasure of taking our Year 5/6 Cricketers to Gala day last week. They were such fantastic ambassadors for our school. I was so proud of the teamwork, resilience and sportsmanship they displayed throughout the day. I even had compliments from teachers from neighbouring schools about the way our students collaborated and included other students in their games.

Wellbeing Barometer Survey

Parents are invited to participate in an online survey through School TV. The answers will be collated and used by the school to guide wellbeing activities, and will remain anonymous.

There have already been some responses which has been helpful to the Wellbeing team to identify if there are areas of wellbeing and mental health that we can address in classrooms and through Parent sessions in term 2.

Lunchtime Clubs

We have some free lunchtime clubs open to any students who are interested, this is a great way for students to form peer connections with students in other year levels:

Monday - Jigsaw Puzzles & Beading with Josie in the Wellbeing room 1.45-2.15pm

Tuesday- Boardgames & Origami with Josie in the Wellbeing room 1.45-2.15pm

Wellbeing Focus Topic - Physical activity and exercise

Physical activity and exercise is not only vital to a child’s overall development but it has so many other benefits. With children spending more time on computers, it is even more important to get kids moving more. As well as maintaining a healthy weight, it also improves concentration by helping to establish connections between different parts of the brain. It helps kids develop fundamental movement skills impacting positively on their confidence, self-esteem and ability to develop social skills. On an emotional level, it reduces stress and anxiety while improving posture and sleep. Physical activity and exercise is good for your child’s health, now and in the future. Parents should encourage their kids to move or play sport at every opportunity – in and out of school.

As the school holidays approach it is important for families to work on balancing active time and screen time. Getting outside and doing something physical is important. Meeting up with friends at the park to play is a great way to keep connections during the school holiday break.
