Girls Basketball Summer Gala Newsletter Student Report!
We went to Summer Gala Day, on Friday, 20th March and played basketball. We won 2 games out of 5. There were 8 schools, overall, we finished in fourth place . Even though we did not get ribbons (only 1st and 2nd places got ribbons), we had fun.
We first played against Sacred Heart and lost because we only got 2 points and they got 18. Then we played Oakleigh Primary School and won. Everyone in the team displayed great courage and resilience. We achieved our goal, which was, winning at least 1 game out of 5 and we nailed it! Next, we played Huntingdale Primary School and ended up winning, the other kids from Huntingdale were so kind even though we were playing against them. Our fourth game was a semi-final, and we felt nervous. We felt a lot of pressure; we really wanted to win and reach the grand final to secure 1st or 2nd place. Unfortunately, we lost the game.
We cried after the game, but we pulled ourselves together. In our next game against Amsleigh Park Primary School, we gave it our all, but unfortunately, we lost by just one point. We were so tired and sleepy, but we tried our best and that is the most important thing when you are playing sport. After the game we went back to school and watched a movie in the last hour then the bell rang, we went home and slept a lot.
We had a lot of fun!!
Cricket Summer Gala Recap
On the 20th of March, the 5/6’s had their annual summer gala day. The mixed and girls cricket teams headed over to Princes Highway Reserve to play against other primary schools. Before we started to compete, the teams practiced and had a reassuring pep talk from Josie. After that, the mixed and girl teams split up to different ovals within the reserve. First up, the girls team versed another team of girls from Huntingdale Primary School, while the mixed versed Clarinda Primary School. Although they were both tough games, both CNPS cricket teams managed to win by a landslide. One of our toughest opponents for both teams were Scared Heart Primary School. In the end, the girls team managed to place 3rd overall with 4 out of 5 games won. For the mixed team, unfortunately placed 5th, with 2 out of 5 games won. In a nutshell, this was a great experience for the teams, and hopefully in the future the other teams feel the same, we all learned how to improve our social skills and sportpersonship.

After about half an hour, we arrived at Waverley Community Centre. Rounders was played outdoors. In the first round, the girl’s rounders team played Sacred Heart Primary School, unfortunately we didn’t win, but we tried our best and had fun! In the next round, we had fun, but we didn’t win. After that, we had snack for about 20 minutes. Unluckily, during the third and the fourth round of games, we lost but we had fun. Then we had lunch for 30 minutes. After lunch, we had one last round. We tried our best and guess what, we won! The other school got 7 points, we got 9! Lastly, the umpires announced the first, second and third placed schools. We didn’t place, but we tried our best.

Clayton Festival Parade
On Sunday, around 40 of our students attended the Clayton Festival, where they proudly showcased their incredible masks, costumes and instruments as part of the festival parade. This event was the culmination of their hard work during our costume and performance-making workshops with visiting artist Jason Phu.
Students took part in a performance titled “I was once this animal, and I will one day be this animal,” presented next to the Main Stage. They also joined the parade, confidently displaying their creative upcycled costumes.
The atmosphere was vibrant and celebratory, and it was wonderful to see families get involved, with parents and siblings joining the procession and wearing masks alongside the students.
A sincere thank you to artist Jason Phu, who travelled from Sydney to work with our students and support them on the day. We also extend our thanks to the Heven and her team from Monash University, as well as our CNPS staff and families, for their support in making this such a memorable experience.
