What a great start we have had to Term 3. It was lovely seeing everyone after the 2 week break! It has been wonderful welcoming Ms Ayoubi and Ms Cerra to the Grade 3/4 team. Ms Ayoubi teaches 3/4C Tuesday-Friday and Ms Cerra teaches 3/4C on Mondays.
We started this term by exploring the comprehension strategy of prediction. We have learnt how good readers make predictions before reading a book by using text features including the title, author, illustrator, illustrations and blurb. We have explored how good readers also make predictions before, during and after reading, using text clues and prior knowledge to support their predictions.
In reading we have also analysed procedural texts. We have looked at the author's purpose, structure, features and language with this text type. Students have completed comprehension activities which encourage them to draw on their understanding of this text type.

In writing, the grade 3/4s have been writing persuasive texts. It has been great playing, building and cooking things before we write! We have made fairy bread, sandcastles and played games of tag. After each experience, students had to write a procedural text! We have learnt about a procedural text's structure (i.e. title, goal, equipment, steps), language and features.

In maths, the grade 3/4s have continued their learning on subtraction. We have continued exploring mental strategies for solving multi-digit subtraction equations, such as the split strategy and jump strategy. We have also continued to build our understanding of solving subtraction problems using the formal algorithm. It was great to see students apply their knowledge of place value renaming when solving these subtraction problems!

We have started our exploring our first topic of the term 'The Olympics'. We have explored what we already know about the Olympics, listed questions we have and worked out what we would like to know. We have learnt about the history of the Olympic Games, the meaning behind the Olympic Rings and researched different countries that participate in the Olympic Games.

We started the term by revising the school values: kindness, respect and learning together. We played games to remind ourselves of what these values look like in our learning space.
Then in The Resilience Project we explored 'kindness'. We discussed how we feel when we are kind to others and also thought about how it makes others feel. We "filled buckets" by writing kind things about our peers.

The grade 3/4s also participated in the Project Rocket incursion. It was a great reminder about being kind, accepting and understanding of everyone, and how to be a good friend to others despite our differences.
