Principal message
Welcome back to St Monicas for Term 3! I hope you all had a fantastic break and are ready for the exciting term ahead. I am really excited to be working alongside you this term as acting principal and thank Tim for his work in the first semester. Hopefully I will get to meet many of you throughout the coming days, having already spent some time with the classes, we can certainly begin the term with great enthusiasm and optimism.
This week, we are particularly excited to celebrate NAIDOC Week. NAIDOC Week is a time to recognize and celebrate the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Our school has planned a range of activities and events to honour this important week, including cultural performances, storytelling sessions, and art exhibitions. These activities not only educate our students about the rich heritage of Australia's First Nations but also foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of Indigenous cultures. Unfortunately due to circumstances beyond our control our immersion visit was postponed meaning this will occur later in the term, something I know the children are certainly looking forward to.
Landscape Works
I am pleased to share that significant improvements have been made in our schoolyard over the break. We have focused on enhancing aesthetics, functionality and safety of our outdoor spaces to create a more vibrant and conducive environment for our students. New landscaping, seating areas, and recreational facilities have been added to ensure that our schoolyard remains a place where students can learn, play, and socialize in a safe and enjoyable setting. These works are estimated to be completed by the end of this week.
NAPLAN
Earlier this year grades 3 and 5 took part in NAPLAN testing. Results from this assessment will be sent home next week. Please see below link for more information.
As we embark on Term 3, I encourage all members of our school community to actively participate in the various activities and initiatives planned for this term.
We will continue to provide coffee and the opportunity to chat with staff and school families on Monday mornings of even weeks, starting next Monday 22nd July, outside the library. Assembly will also be held on even weeks starting next Friday 26th July.
Please see the 'Dates to Remember' page to note upcoming events in your calendars.
Together, let's continue to uphold our commitment to academic excellence, personal growth, and inclusivity.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership in making St Monica's a place where every student can thrive.
Kind Regards,
Paul Wilkinson
