Prep
Maths
In maths, the Preps explored the concept of data and how to interpret the data sets. They sorted objects into two groups according to their characteristics, evenly spaced groups, and then described the differences between them. They also answered questions about the sets of data.
This week, the students are exploring and understanding the concept of counting on using a number line to find the total.
Literacy
The students are practising to write capital letters for known letters. They are writing dictated sentences that contain simple and tricky words. The Preps also use finger spaces between words, correct sentence punctuation, and letter formation.
This week, the students are writing simple sentences based on the story The Runaway Pea. Their writing is scaffolded using the Colourful Semantic cards and prompts. Seeing all the students feeling successful and proud of their sentences is terrific.
Visit to St Francis Xavier Parish Church
We were welcomed into the church last Monday afternoon by Father Chinua. He invited the Preps to ask him questions about the church. Fr. Chinua also took the students around the church, explaining the purpose of different areas, various statues, symbols and catholic rituals. The students were very curious about the large stained glass window and the pictures on the glass. Fr Chinua described St Francis Xavier's journey as depicted in the glass.
The Feast Day of Mary MacKillop
Last Thursday the Prep students participated in the Feast Day of Mary MacKillop mass. They were very articulate when answering Father Chinua's questions about Mary MacKillop and her legacy. The students were confident in delivering their reading, prayers and taking up the offertory to the alter. Well done Preps!
