Term 3 - Week 5

Dear Parents and Friends of St Francis Xavier,

Today, our school community came together to celebrate the Feast of the Assumption, a significant day in our Catholic faith. The entire school attended a special Mass this morning, where we reflected on the Blessed Virgin Mary's journey to Heaven. This solemn occasion reminds us of the values of faith, hope, and devotion—qualities that we strive to instill in our students every day. Through Mary's example, our children learn the importance of trust in God and the power of a life lived with purpose and love.

On this Feast of the Assumption, we give thanks for the Blessed Virgin Mary, who was taken body and soul into Heaven. May her example of faith, humility, and obedience inspire us to live our lives with love and devotion to You. Help us to trust in Your plan, as Mary did, and to always seek to do Your will. Guide our school community to grow in faith and be ever more like Mary, embracing Your grace with open hearts.

Road Works on Yuille St/Hastings Rd

Last week I had a meeting with the group managing the Frankston Hospital redevelopment. We were informed that at the end of August, works will commence at the intersection of Yuille St and Hastings Rd to deliver;

- Traffic lights at the intersection

-New bus shelters

-New pedestrian crossings

-A new slip lane from Hastings Rd into Yuille St

-Widening the footpath on Yuille St to 3 metres

I was very pleased to hear that they have also decided to build a new retaining wall adjacent to our school , running the distance between Park St and Hastings Rd. This area is in urgent need of repair, so we are very grateful that this work is being completed. Redeveloping this area will give the school much greater exposure to the traffic travelling towards the beach on Hastings Rd, which is something we have been wanting for a long time.

From a traffic perspective, it does mean that there may be some more congestion from the commencement of the works until the end of 2024. Please read through the flyer below which outlines the scope of works to be completed and also what to expect while the work is taking place.

Assemblies

There will be two more assemblies in Term 3. Parents and family members are most welcome to attend. Assembly commences at 2:30pm on these days.

Tuesday 3rd September (Grade 5/6T presenting for the first 5-10 minutes)

Tuesday 19th September (Grade Prep presenting for the first 5-10 minutes)

MACS Annual Report

Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS) has been established to be responsible for the governance and operation of approximately 300 parish primary schools and regional and archdiocesan secondary colleges in the Archdiocese of Melbourne. St Francis Xavier Primary in Frankston is one of these 300 schools.

MACS governs and supports Catholic schools in the Archdiocese to continue the mission of Catholic education to proclaim the Good News and equip our young people with the knowledge, skills and hope to live meaningful lives and enrich the world around them.

Congratulations

We are thrilled to announce that Jack B (Grade 6) has emerged victorious at the Under 14 National Karate Championships, held in Geelong.

Representing Victoria, Jack demonstrated exceptional skill and determination throughout the event. Competitors from all over Australia gathered for this major event, but Jack stood out by not losing a single point throughout the entire competition—a truly remarkable achievement!

This victory is a testament to Jack's hard work, discipline, and passion for karate. With this impressive win under his belt, Jack is now setting his sights on an even bigger goal: making the Australian team when he turns 14. We have no doubt that with his talent and dedication, Jack will continue to achieve great things in the world of karate.

Next week, we look forward to welcoming parents on both Monday and Thursday evening for Parent/Teacher meetings.
