NEW MINI BASKETBALL BACKBOARD & RING!

HUGE THANK YOU TO JACK BARLOW (Dad to Albert - Yr 1/2) for volunteering his time in constructing and erecting this brand new modified height backboard for our younger students to practise their shooting skills on! It took a great deal of nutting out and sourcing the necessary brackets to optimise safety for our students which is much appreciated. The students especially from Prep and Year 1/2 are throughly enjoying using this new piece of playground equipment and experiencing more success in their shooting! We are so lucky to have such a wonderful parent group to draw upon in their skill set.

STATE CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS - CONGRATS TO ALFRED & MATILDA!

Running in extremely wet and muddy conditions, both Alfred Hindle and Matilda Cleary battled away for 3km at Yarra Valley Racecourse against the VERY  BEST of Victoria's distance runners. Both competed in the 12/13 yr old events in the State Cross Country  in boys (MC) and girls respectively. Alfred missed out on a medal this year, but was very pleased with his effort and achievement.  He truly is inspirational in the way he trains and puts so much into every event he enters and always ending his races with a smile.  St Joseph's are so proud of you!

Matilda worked tirelessly across her event, running against the best from thousands of 12/13 year old girls across Victoria and giving it her all. She fell three times during the race due to the slippery, congested track, finishing looking more like she'd been playing footy.  With an amazing finishing position of 21st in Victoria for her age group, we are so proud of her achievements, making state for the first time this year. Well done, Matilda!

RUGBY LEAGUE STARS PROGRAM

Each year in Term 4, the 5/6s participate in a unit of Rugby League and compete in the Billy Slater Cup against the other nine schools of the Phillip District.  A new Play League Stars Program for ages 5-12 years is being conducted as an Afterschool Program at Sorrento Primary and offered for both schools.  It is run by long-time supporter of Rugby League on the peninsula, Ali Tuai. He will also be coming to St Joseph's to conduct free intro sessions for this program to all students on Monday 12th August. SEE PAMPHLET BELOW for details on how to register.
