Principal's Report
Our Year 5 and 6 teaching team and students have been busily preparing for their 3 day camp to Sovereign Hill, Ballarat over the past week. The camp is less than a week away, and students have been building their knowledge of the diverse history from goldfields in Victoria, and gaining an understanding of the conditions and challenges that miners faced when they first arrived in Australia over 100 years ago. I know they will enjoy this incredible camp and all the activities and learning that will occur over the 3 days next week.
Along with this exciting learning, students across the school have been engaged in the excitement of the Paris Olympic Games. I know for myself, it has been hard to manage a good night’s sleep with so many amazing sporting achievements from Australia and around the world occurring overnight. I am sure many families are having similar challenges, with children eager to be part of this global event. Of course, we all aim to have a reasonable bedtime for students to ensure they are ‘ready to learn’ each day. Thank goodness for televised replays!
Parent/Caregiver/ Guardian Opinion Survey
On Monday, all families were provided with a printed letter and a Compass message, encouraging each family to take part in the parent/Care giver/ Gaurdian survey for 2024. I urge all families to PLEASE take this opportunity to provide feedback to our school. We are eager to improve and meet the needs and expectations of our community, and this requires your input. We are also looking for opportunities to celebrate and continue the great and positive achievements from our staff and students.
Please refer to the Compass email or printed letter and complete the survey to support our school. It is a small but very valuable action (just 20 minutes) that all families can take to help our school be the best it can be.
WE WANT OUR PARENTS / CAREGIVERS / GUARDIANS TO TELL US WHAT THEY THINK!
Our school is conducting the annual Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey offered by the Department of Education and is seeking your feedback. The survey is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behavior, and student engagement. The survey is optional, but we encourage and appreciate your participation.
Our school will use the survey results to assist in identifying areas for improvement and professional development needs in the school, to target school planning and improvement strategies.
The Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey will be open online from Monday 29 July to Friday 30 August 2024.All families are invited to participate in the survey.
The survey will be conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones.
The online survey will be available in English and 10 other languages including Arabic, Greek, Hakha Chin, Hindi, Japanese, Punjabi, Simplified Chinese, Somali, Turkish, and Vietnamese. Resources are also available in additional languages to assist parents / caregivers / guardians who speak a language other than English at home. Please reach out to the school directly for survey guides in your language. Please speak to your child’s teacher if you would like more information.
Foundation - 100 Days at school
Next week our Foundation students celebrate their first 100 days of primary school. We are so proud of all the learning and progress this group of students have made this year. Many students in Foundation our now recognising all the letters and sounds, reading with some independence and writing with beautifully formed letters and punctuation. What an achievement in just 100 days! I do hope families take the time to celebrate this special occasion with the youngest of our students at ARPS this week.
Year 2 Maths - Data collecting
Our year 2 students have been busy this week developing their skills in collecting, displaying and explaining data collections, Students have been learning about pictographs, tallying objects, graphing using different axis and answering questions about the data they have seen and collected.
Below is some of James' independent graphing and tallying efforts. Very impressive!
Are you connected?
At Albany Rise Primary School, our two primary digital communication tools are Class Dojo and Compass.
Class Dojo is great to keep up with day-to-day messages, see when your child is demonstrating great values and behaviour, contacting teachers (or myself), seeing what is happening in the classroom (lots of photos) and around the school, including special events.
Compass is used to report student learning, see and pay for upcoming events on the calendar, communicate with the school regarding reasons for student absences, read newsletters and more.
In many classes we have 100% of parents connected via Class Dojo. If you are not sure how to connect, please talk to your child’s teacher or see the office for support.
