Music minds incursion

This term we have started a weekly music session with musical minds. Nima comes in and spend 30 minutes in the 3- and 4-year-old room.

He has been introducing elements of music through beat, rhythm, pitch, and tone music (describing the sounds of the instruments). Looking at concepts of slow, fast, loud and soft. Combing music with instruments, movement, dancing, clapping, or stomping to the beat which helps children develop motor skills and rhythm. Exposing children to various types of music and world music. Each genre can offer new rhythms and melodies to explore.

Literacy through play

The children have been interested in writing their name on their artwork. Asking how to spell their name or wanting to copy their name.

Wanting to look at books they are exposed to recognising print, learning vocabulary, identifying letters and sounds. Visual memory is developing, they are remembering what they have seen, re-telling the story and learning to read a story by looking at the pictures.

Using art and craft to draw and using craft items to write their name, early stages of writing is drawing, holding a pencil correctly, you can see in the children’s drawing they have started to write letters.

Dramatic play such as a grocery store and post office, allows children to engage in play that mirrors real-world situations. They are practice writing shopping lists, filling out forms, or reading instructions, integrating literacy into their play.

The children’s favourite game at the moment is alphabet bingo, this game has helped the children to learn the letters. Also, sounding out letters and connecting letters to words, discussion on letters making words and linking words to pictures.
