Chess Victoria Open Secondary State Final
A team of very enthusiastic Glen Eira College students participated in the Chess Victoria Open Secondary State Final, which was held at Brighton Grammar School on Monday 9th October. 269 students representing 26 schools took part in this event, making it one of the biggest Chess Victoria tournaments ever held.
The Glen Eira College team scored 26 points in the tournament and finished in sixth place, equal with two other schools, which was a very good effort given that several strong junior chess players took part in this event.
A special congratulations is due to George Fetsis in Year 12, Pierre Maziarz in Year 11 and Randheer Thogata in Year 8 who each won 6 of their 8 games, placing them among the top 30 highest scoring players in the tournament.

Chess Victoria Secondary Girls State Final
Glen Eira College was also represented by a team of keen students who took part in the Chess Victoria Secondary Girls State Final, which was held at the German Tivoli Club on Tuesday 10th October. A total of 7 schools competed in this event and the Glen Eira College team scored 10 points and finished in fifth position at the conclusion of the tournament. A special congratulations is due to Noeleen Bautista who finished the tournament with 3.5 points, recording three wins and a draw from the 7 games that she played.
